Kräppladiket
Kräppladiket is one of the four inflow rivers of Lake Magelungen in southern Stockholm, Sweden. It empties into the lake in its northern end together with Magelungsdiket and Norrån while Djupån joins the lake on its southern end. In contrast to Magelungsdiket, Kräppladiket was not considerably affected by the construction of the south-western suburbs in the early 1950s, but important part of the ditch was however guided through culverts limiting the open stream to the 1,4 km passing through the Rågsved Open-air Area south of Rågsved. A bit less than 50 per cent of the catchment area is occupied by one-family houses and green spaces. The upper reach of the ditch is thus affected by relatively low levels of phosphorus and nitrogen, while samples by the lower reach, next to the Snösätra industrial area, showed a presence of high levels of metals. The mouth of Kräppladiket is located in a Reed bed and no defined outflow exists.Vattenprogram, p 9.4 In 2006 works w ...

Magelungen
Magelungen () is one of the biggest lakes in Stockholm, Sweden, located between the municipalities of Stockholm and Huddinge. It is considered as of great recreational value and is popular for bathing, yachting, and fishing in summers, and tour skating in winters. The lake borders two nature reserves: Fagersjöskogen/ Farstanäset and Rågsved Open-Air Area. Catchment area Less than half of the catchment area is composed of forest and open grasslands. Some 10 per cent is wetlands and parks, and the remaining area is covered by one-family houses and blocks of flats. Two bridges cross the lake; several major roads pass through the catchment area, as do the above ground tracks of the metro and suburban railway. South of the lake is a larger continuous forest, a golf course, and an open-air centre. Besides the nature reserve, areas on the northern side are used for riding and Allotment-gardens.Vattenprogram, p 9.3-9.4 The primary catchment area is relatively small and compos ...

Magelungsdiket
Magelungsdiket ( sv, Magelungen Ditch) is one of three inflows of Lake Magelungen in southern Stockholm, Sweden. It empties into the lake from north together with Kräppladiket while Djupån reaches the southern end of the lake. Magelungsdiket had a drainage area of 17 km² stretching north to Mälarhöjden until the south-western suburbs of Stockholm were built in the early 1950s and water was guided to Lake Mälaren through stormwater pipes. Today only 1,5 km² remains of the drainage area and most of the contributions comes from one-family houses in eastern Rågsved and green areas around Magelungen. Water flow is slow, often stagnant, and the ditch is surrounded by dense vegetation. It opened out in a wetland drained in 1994 in order to create canals and minor islands attracting birds. Very high levels of metals have been reported from a street inlet near the outlet.Vattenprogram, p 9.3 Together with Kräpplingadiket, it is estimated to contribute some 100  ...

Geography Of Stockholm
The City of Stockholm is situated on fourteen islands and on the banks to the archipelago where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea. The city centre is virtually situated on the water. The area of Stockholm is one of several places in Sweden with a joint valley terrain. In these landscapes erosion along geological joints has split the flattish upper surfaces into low-lying plateaus. In the case of Stockholm the plateau surfaces are remnants of the Sub-Cambrian peneplain. Islands and islets Extant islands and islets Historical islands and islets References: Dufwa, ''Stockholms tekniska historia'', pp 49-50, 149-150 Lakes and watercourses The access to fresh water is excellent in Stockholm today. Historically, lakes and watercourses were used as refuse dumps and latrines, causing epidemic cholera and many other diseases. By the 1860s water was being drawn from Årstaviken, the waters south of Södermalm, and was treated in the first water-purifying plant at Skanstull and ...

Rågsved Open-air Area
Rågsved is a suburb historically belonging to the district of Bandhagen in Stockholm, Sweden. History Rågsved remained uninhabited until the mid-1950s. In 1953 a development plan was set up for the area. Rågsveds centrum and Rågsved metro station on the Stockholm metro were built in 1955-1957. The first areas built were the neighborhoods of Snösätrahöjden and Bjursätrahöjden The neighbouring community of Hagsätra was formed in 1959. In the early years, Rågsved was mostly inhabited by expatriate workers from the inner city, particularly from Södermalm, and was considered state of the art in the late 1950s. For a long time it was populated by highly paid, affluent tenants. While Rågsved was built, an industrialization type of style dominated the construction, and this is visible at the houses located to the north of the subway. There, modernism made its mark, with more towers and slab blocks. Rågsved centrum contains a horseshoe-shaped multi-building which ...

Phosphorus
Phosphorus is a chemical element with the symbol P and atomic number 15. Elemental phosphorus exists in two major forms, white phosphorus and red phosphorus, but because it is highly reactive, phosphorus is never found as a free element on Earth. It has a concentration in the Earth's crust of about one gram per kilogram (compare copper at about 0.06 grams). In minerals, phosphorus generally occurs as phosphate. Elemental phosphorus was first isolated as white phosphorus in 1669. White phosphorus emits a faint glow when exposed to oxygen – hence the name, taken from Greek mythology, meaning 'light-bearer' (Latin ), referring to the " Morning Star", the planet Venus. The term '' phosphorescence'', meaning glow after illumination, derives from this property of phosphorus, although the word has since been used for a different physical process that produces a glow. The glow of phosphorus is caused by oxidation of the white (but not red) phosphorus — a process now called chem ...

Nitrogen
Nitrogen is the chemical element with the symbol N and atomic number 7. Nitrogen is a nonmetal and the lightest member of group 15 of the periodic table, often called the pnictogens. It is a common element in the universe, estimated at seventh in total abundance in the Milky Way and the Solar System. At standard temperature and pressure, two atoms of the element bond to form N2, a colorless and odorless diatomic gas. N2 forms about 78% of Earth's atmosphere, making it the most abundant uncombined element. Nitrogen occurs in all organisms, primarily in amino acids (and thus proteins), in the nucleic acids ( DNA and RNA) and in the energy transfer molecule adenosine triphosphate. The human body contains about 3% nitrogen by mass, the fourth most abundant element in the body after oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. The nitrogen cycle describes the movement of the element from the air, into the biosphere and organic compounds, then back into the atmosphere. Many indus ...
