Korol' I Shut
Korol i Shut (russian: Король и Шут, lit=King and Jester) were a Russian horror punk band from Saint Petersburg that took inspiration and costumes from tales and fables. In Russia, the band has achieved cult status. History The band was formed in 1988 by a group of school friends in Saint Petersburg. The founding members were Mikhail "Gorshok" Gorsheniov (), Aleksandr "Balu" Balunov (), and Aleksandr "Lieutenant" Shchigoliev (). Singer Andrei "Kniaz" Kniazev () joined the band in 1990 and guitarist Yakov Tsvirkunov () joined in 1997. The band's name, which means "The King and the Jester," was adopted in 1992. Previously, the band was called Kontora (). Korol' i Shut's lyrics are written by Kniazev and feature horror stories and folk tales about pirates, trolls, ghosts and vampires, as well as Slavic mythology. Syktyvkar (, rus, Сыктывка́р, p=sɨktɨfˈkar; kv, Сыктывкар) is the capital city of the Komi Republic in Russia, as well as its largest city. It is also the capital of the Syktyvkar Urban Okrug. TaMtAm (also written as Tamtam, tam-tam, or Тамтам) was an independent rock club in Saint Petersburg, founded in 1991 by Vsevolod Gakkel, the former cellist of Aquarium. TaMtAm was the first Western-style rock club in Saint Petersburg. History After traveling to the West and visiting intimate rock clubs in New York and San Francisco, Vsevolod Gakkel was inspired to open a similar venue in Saint Petersburg. In 1991, he founded TaMtAm in Vasilyevsky Island, Saint Petersburg. The club was situated in a former Communist Youth building and provided a small stage in a small room for bands to play on.
