Kojo (singer)
Timo Kojo (born 9 May 1953, in Helsinki) is a Finnish pop rock singer. He started his recording career in 1977 when his band, Madame George, released their only album, ''Madame George: What's Happening?''. Kojo's first solo album, ''So Mean'', was a hit in Finland. The second sold equally well, though it was not considered quite as good. In 1981, however, his third solo album was a flop. In the Eurovision Song Contest of 1982 he represented his country with the entry ''Nuku pommiin'' (Oversleep!), a rock song with music by Jim Pembroke and lyrics by Juice Leskinen; the conductor was Ossi Runne. The song performed in Finnish was a protest against nuclear bombs and the danger of a nuclear war in Europe (the Cold War was still under way in 1982). The song received no points (''nul points''). Finland was represented by Ami Aspelund, with the song "Fantasiaa", at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 April in Munich. "Fantasiaa" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final organised by broadcaster Yle and held on 28 January. Ami Aspelund (born Anne-Marie Aspelund on 7 September 1953 in Vaasa) is a Finnish singer. She is the younger sister of singer Monica Aspelund. Career Ami Aspelund released her first single in 1973 called "Apinamies", which is a Finnish version of Jungle Jim's "Big Fat Orang Uman". Finland was represented by Riki Sorsa and the song "Reggae OK" at the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 4 April in Dublin. Sorsa won the rights to represent Finland on the 21 February. Before Eurovision National final The final was hosted by Finnish television producer and singer Erkki Pohjanheimo, at Yleisradio Studio 2 in Helsinki. Eight songs were selected from the semi-final which took place on January 28. Riki Sorsa
Richard Esko "Riki" Sorsa (26 December 1952 – 10 May 2016) was a Finnish pop singer. He started his career in 1974 as the lead singer in the band The Zoo. He represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with the entry " Reggae OK", a reggae influenced song in Finnish which came 16th (out of 20 countries). The song was composed by Jim Pembroke, the lyrics were written by Olli Ojala, and it was conducted by Otto Donner. Sorsa released several albums, singing in Finnish, Swedish, and English. Sorsa died of cancer on 10 May 2016. Personal life Sorsa's parents were Esko Sorsa, a goldsmith and entrepreneur, and Margaretha von Bahr, a ballerina.
