Koivusaari Metro Station
Koivusaari metro station (, ) is a station located underwater on the Länsimetro extension of the Helsinki Metro. Although the metro station is named after Koivusaari, the westernmost island in Helsinki, it is actually located on the extreme western edge of the Lauttasaari island. It is located 2.3 kilometres east from Keilaniemi metro station and 1.6 kilometres west from Lauttasaari metro station. The eastern entrance to Koivusaari metro station is located on Sotkatie in Lauttasaari. The western entrance, on the island of Koivusaari itself, had not been taken into use when the Länsimetro was completed, it is waiting until land use in the area has developed enough. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. Länsimetro
Länsimetro (English: Western Metro, Swedish: Västmetron) is an extension to the Helsinki Metro system in Finland. The grand opening for the long-awaited extension was held on 18 November 2017. Länsimetro extends the system's two lines, M1 and M2, from Central Helsinki to the neighbouring city of Espoo. The new stretch continues the lines from the existing Ruoholahti station via the island of Lauttasaari, the Aalto University Otaniemi campus and Tapiola, the terminus of line M2. Line M1 continues further west to Matinkylä. Unlike previous extensions to the Helsinki Metro system, Länsimetro runs entirely underground. Koivusaari
Koivusaari (; sv, Björkholmen; literally the "Birch Island") is an island and a part of the district of Lauttasaari in Helsinki, Finland. The island hosts two yacht clubs and a former Nokia training centre. The current island of Koivusaari has been formed by combining the island of Koivusaari proper with the island of Leppäsaari to the south of it and expanding it. Since the late 1990s and early 2000s there have been plans to construct a new residential area on reclaimed land in Koivusaari, served by the Koivusaari metro station. Koivusaari is the westernmost district of the entire southern part of Helsinki. Lauttasaari (; sv, Drumsö) is an island in Helsinki, Finland, about west of the city centre. Together with some surrounding unpopulated small islands, Lauttasaari is also a district of Helsinki. With 23,226 residents as of 2017, the island is Finland's second largest by population, after Fasta Åland. Its land area is 3.85 km. Lauttasaari is primarily a residential area but also contains services, including several marinas and canoe clubs. Although close to the city centre, Lauttasaari has not been entirely built up.
