Knot Feeder was an American math rock band from Pittsburgh, featuring ex-members of Don Caballero, Tabula Rasa, and Southpaw. The band consisted of guitarist Mike Banfield (ex- Don Caballero), drummer Rob Spagiare (ex- Tabula Rasa), guitarist Andrew Grossmann (ex-Tabula), and bassist Andy Curl (ex-Southpaw). Battles (band)
Battles is an American experimental rock group, founded in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress). The current line-up is a duo, composed of guitarist/keyboardist Williams and drummer John Stanier (formerly of Helmet, Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain). Former members include composer/vocalist Tyondai Braxton and guitarist/bassist Dave Konopka. The band has released four studio albums to date, with the most recent ''Juice B Crypts'' being released in 2019. The band are regarded as one of the most innovative math rock bands of both the 2000s and the 2010s, with critics praising the band's unique sound. Don Caballero
Don Caballero (often shortened by members as 'Don Cab') was an American instrumental rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although the band has had numerous lineup changes with co-founder Damon Che (drums and percussion) being the only constant member, the band's 'classic' lineup consisted of Che, Ian Williams (guitar), Pat Morris (bass guitar), and Mike Banfield (guitar). Formed in 1991 as a trio, the band released two singles in 1992. Williams joined the band the same year during the production of their debut album ''For Respect'' which was released in 1993 to positive reviews. Morris shortly left after the album's release and was replaced by bassists Matt Jencik, George Draguns from 1993 to 1996 respectively. In 1995, the band under the lineup of Jencik, Williams, Banfield, and Che released their second album ''Don Caballero 2'' to critical acclaim. Tabula Rasa was a post-hardcore/math rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were featured on Deep Elm’s ''Me Against the World: The Emo Diaries Chapter 7'' and released a self-titled EP on One Day Savior Recordings as well as a full length album ''The Role of Smith'' on A-F Records. History The band was formed in the fall of 2000 when bassist Chris Miskis brought drummer Jeff Kopanic together with guitarists Andrew Grossmann and Rob Spagiare. Kopanic had never met either guitarist before the band’s first practice at the Mr. Roboto Project. Within a few months, the band had finished recording seven songs at +/- Studio in Pittsburgh with Andy Wright. Damon Che
Damon Che (born Damon Che Fitzgerald, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a rock drummer and guitarist. He has contributed to indie rock and progressive rock through his work with math rock pioneers Don Caballero since 1991. His style is heavily influenced by metal, hard rock, punk, jazz, and fusion. Che utilizes a hard-hitting yet flowing extrovert style of drumming. In Don Caballero, his drumming takes more of a lead instrument role than just keeping time. There are many instances where the guitars would act as rhythmic foundation, while Che soloed freely on top. Early career Che received his first drum kit at the age of fourteen. While in high school, he drummed for the new wave band Syndicate, and then co-founded the synthpop trio Pynknoys (1985-1986), where he sang, played drums, and programmed the drum machine. ''What Burns Never Returns'' is the third album by American math rock band Don Caballero. ''What Burns Never Returns'' was released on Touch and Go Records in 1998 and was a reunion of sorts for the band—it was their first album after a two-year hiatus and marked the return of the original line-up. The album is notable for guitarist Ian Williams' first significant experimentation with pedals and other electronic effects. This style would be prevalent in both Williams' and the band's subsequent work. It is the final studio album to feature guitarist Mike Banfield and bassist Pat Morris, both of whom were in the original line-up of Don Caballero.
