Damon Che
Damon Che (born Damon Che Fitzgerald, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a rock drummer and guitarist. He has contributed to indie rock and progressive rock through his work with math rock pioneers Don Caballero since 1991. His style is heavily influenced by metal, hard rock, punk, jazz, and fusion. Che utilizes a hard-hitting yet flowing extrovert style of drumming. In Don Caballero, his drumming takes more of a lead instrument role than just keeping time. There are many instances where the guitars would act as rhythmic foundation, while Che soloed freely on top. Early career Che received his first drum kit at the age of fourteen. While in high school, he drummed for the new wave band Syndicate, and then co-founded the synthpop trio Pynknoys (1985-1986), where he sang, played drums, and programmed the drum machine. ''What Burns Never Returns'' is the third album by American math rock band Don Caballero. ''What Burns Never Returns'' was released on Touch and Go Records in 1998 and was a reunion of sorts for the band—it was their first album after a two-year hiatus and marked the return of the original line-up. The album is notable for guitarist Ian Williams' first significant experimentation with pedals and other electronic effects. This style would be prevalent in both Williams' and the band's subsequent work. ''Don Caballero 2'' is the second studio album by American math rock band Don Caballero. It was released in 1995 on Touch and Go Records. The album is the group's longest, clocking in at almost one hour in length. Critical reception Ira Robbins, in ''Trouser Press'', wrote that "Don Caballero hasn’t completely sacrificed its softer side to the gods of skronk, and the meditative 'Cold Knees (in April)' suggests the sound of several thumb pianos, arranged by Philip Glass and fingered by Einstürzende Neubauten." ''For Respect'' is the debut album by Don Caballero, a Pittsburgh-based math rock band. ''For Respect'' was released on Touch and Go Records in 1993. Though Ian Williams is credited on guitar for this album, he only joined the band shortly before ''For Respects recording and had little substantial creative influence. As a result, this album is much less orchestrated and complex than Don Caballero's later work. In 2006 interviewwith the e-zine ''Space City Rock'', Damon Che revealed that he played guitar on some Don Caballero songs, including the choruses of "Well Built Road." He became noted for his finger tapping guitar playing in bands such as Don Caballero, Storm & Stress and currently in Battles. Noise Rock
