Kings Road, Adelaide
McIntyre Road (and its northern sections as Kings Road and Bolivar Road) is an arterial road crossing through northern and northeastern suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia. It is designated route A18. Route Kings Road crosses the northern suburbs connecting Port Wakefield Road and Main North Road immediately north of Parafield Airport across the southern edge of Salisbury. The northern part of Kings Road passes through residential areas and crosses the Little Para River. East of the railway lines, the character changes to industrial manufacturing, and the Parafield Airport. McIntyre Road continues east of Main North Road with a residential character again. It rises up the face of the Adelaide Hills through a corridor of native bushland and sweeps past the Golden Grove development of the 1980s to North East Road at Modbury. History Salisbury was founded when John Harvey began selling town allotments in 1848, from land he had purchased along the Little Para River in the previous year. North–South Motorway
The North–South Motorway is a partially complete motorway traversing the inner western suburbs of Adelaide from Waterloo Corner in the north to Bedford Park in the south. Progressively constructed in stages since 2010, once complete it will replace the adjacent South Road as Adelaide's main north–south roadway and form the central section of the North–South Corridor, being flanked north and south by the Northern Expressway and Southern Expressway, respectively. It is designated part of route M2. By March 2021, approximately of the motorway had been completed, with the remaining under investigation. The full project is planned for completion in 2030. Metropolitan Adelaide Transport Study
The Metropolitan Adelaide Transport Study, or "MATS Plan" as it became known, was a comprehensive transport plan released in 1968 proposing a number of road and rail transport projects for the metropolitan area of Adelaide, South Australia. It recommended the construction of 98 kilometres of freeways, 34 kilometres of expressway and the widening of 386 kilometres of existing arterial roads. It also featured new arterial roads and a new bridge over the Port River. For public transport, it proposed the closure of the Glenelg tram line, 20 rail grade separations and 14 kilometres of new train line, including a subway under King William Street. The estimated cost of land acquisition and construction was $436.5 million in 1968, which equates to approximately $4,580 million in 2010 with inflation. Golden Grove, South Australia
Golden Grove is an outer north-eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia and is within the City of Tea Tree Gully local government area. It is adjacent to Wynn Vale, Surrey Downs, Greenwith, Yatala Vale, Fairview Park, and Salisbury East. History Captain Adam Robertson and his wife arrived in South Australia in September 1839, and settled in the area now known as Golden Grove. He donated an acre (4,000 m2) of land to people of the area in 1853, in order for them to build a school they were planning, and allowed it to be named Golden Grove, after the last ship he commanded. (In 1859, however, when the postal authorities wanted to name the town Golden Grove, he objected unsuccessfully.) Little Para River
The Little Para River is a seasonal creek running across the Adelaide Plains in the Australian state of South Australia, whose catchment fills reservoirs that supply some of the water needs of Adelaide’s northern suburbs. Course and features It runs from its source near Lower Hermitage in the Mount Lofty Ranges, flows north westerly to the Little Para Reservoir and then westerly to the Barker Inlet via Swan Creek and into Gulf St Vincent at Globe Derby Park . The lower portion of the river is badly affected by human activity and stormwater runoff but the upper reaches have a good range of biodiversity. The river descends over its course.
