Kilkenny City A.F.C.
Kilkenny City Association Football Club was an Irish football club. The club played in the First Division of the League of Ireland until 18 January 2008 when they announced that they resigned their position in the league citing "lack of finance, poor results and paltry attendances". The club hails from Kilkenny and used Buckley Park as their home pitch. Buckley Park has hosted many International under age soccer games. Kilkenny City will be entering the under 20 division this season which run co-currently with the schoolboy season (August to May). Buckley Park
Buckley Park is a multi-purpose stadium on the Callan Road ( N76), near Kilkenny, Ireland. Kilkenny City (formerly EMFA) purchased of land from a local farmer by the name of Mick Murphy for £16,000. The ground was originally called Tenney Park. It is currently used for football matches by Women's National League club Kilkenny United WFC and was previously the home stadium of Kilkenny City A.F.C. Buckley Park has hosted many junior international soccer games. The ground is named in honour of Marty Buckley, the first president of EMFA / City . He was a former player and administrator with Green Celtic F.C. . He remained involved with EMFA / City until the 1980s, managing youth and junior teams within the club and acting as a trustee for the club until his death. Colin Falvey
Colin Falvey (born 20 June 1985) is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Career Ireland Falvey was born in Cork. He was a trainee and youth player at English clubs Gillingham and Carlisle United, but began his professional career in 2004 with Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland, scoring on his debut vs Athlone Town. He transferred to Kilkenny City prior to the 2007 campaign for a compensation fee because he was under the age of 23, and was made club captain upon arrival. Paul McAreavey
Paul McAreavey (born 3 December 1980) is a Northern Irish football manager and former player. He previously played for Swindon Town, Linfield, Dundalk, Ballymena United and Donegal Celtic. In May 2006 the Belfast native signed a three-year full-time deal with Linfield. In August 2013 McAreavy returned to Donegal Celtic as manager following the departure of his predecessor Pat McAllister. Michael Walsh (Kilkenny Hurler)
Michael Walsh (born 13 October 1961) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Kilkenny senior team and played soccer for Kilkenny City A.F.C. at schoolboy, youth, junior and senior level, as well as lining out for the Republic of Ireland youth team. Walsh made his first appearance for the team during the mid-1980s, however, he didn't become first-choice goalkeeper until the 1990-91 National League and was a regular member of the team until his retirement after the 1996 championship. During that time he has won two All-Ireland winners' medals, three Leinster winners' medals, one National League winners' medal and two All-Star awards. Michael Reddy
Michael Reddy (born 24 March 1980, in Kilkenny) is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a forward from 1997 to 2007. He notably played for Sunderland and Grimsby Town. He also appeared as a professional for Kilkenny City, Swindon Town, Hull City, Barnsley, York City and Sheffield Wednesday. Reddy retired from professional football in 2007 after failing to regain his fitness following three operations from a hip injury he endured while playing with Grimsby Town in 2006. John Coleman (footballer, Born 1962)
John Coleman (born 12 October 1962) is an English football manager and former player. He is the manager of League One side Accrington Stanley. Playing career Coleman had a long playing career, mainly in non-league football for Kirkby Town, Burscough, Marine, Southport, Runcorn F.C. Halton, Macclesfield Town, Morecambe, Lancaster City and Ashton United. He also had a short spell in Wales with Rhyl. Synan Braddish
Synan Braddish (born 27 January 1958) is an Irish former footballer who spent most of his career playing in the League of Ireland, most notably with Dundalk. As an international, Braddish also played for the Republic of Ireland. Club career Born Finglas, County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Braddish initially played junior football with Raven Athletic in his local Finglas area. During the 1970s this club served as a nursery team for Dundalk and in 1975 they recruited Braddish. Braddish subsequently played five seasons with Dundalk under manager Jim McLaughlin, helping the club win seven trophies including the League of Ireland title in 1976 and the FAI Cup in both 1977 and 1981. Tommy Gaynor (born 29 January 1963 in Limerick) was an Irish soccer player during the 1980s and 1990s. He made his League of Ireland debut on 13 September 1981 for Limerick F.C., Limerick United before signing for Shamrock Rovers in 1982. Aidan Price
Aidan Price (born 8 December 1981) is an Irish former football player and currently head coach of Shamrock Rovers II. Price played for Kilkenny City until the start of 2006 when he switched to Shamrock Rovers. He scored his first goal for the club on 7 June 2008 against Sligo Rovers and scored his first league goal in July 2009 against the same opposition. He spent five seasons with the club, winning promotion in his first and the League of Ireland title in his last. He scored two goals in 148 total appearances which included four in the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League. Tadhg Purcell
Tadhg Purcell (born 2 September 1985) is an Irish footballer who plays for Dunbar Rovers FC in the National Premier League. His main position is as a striker, although he can play on the wing. He spent his youth with Leicester Celtic, before joining Kilkenny City in 2004. He moved onto Shamrock Rovers two years later, and enjoyed a successful three-year spell with the club, helping Shamrock to win the First Division title in 2006.
