Kid Bailey
Kid Bailey (Date of birth unknown - after 1960) was a Mississippi Delta bluesman. His one known recording session occurred on September 25, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee. Little is known about Bailey. His voice had a distinctly coarse yet youthful quality. Two of his recordings have survived: "Rowdy Blues" and "Mississippi Bottom Blues". In most digital releases, the tracks are attributed to Willie Brown yet are evidently the same artist credited as Kid Bailey on the original 78-rpm recordings. It has been remarked that "Although it's almost a cliché to say this about a blues musician from the American South, Kid Bailey was one of the most enigmatic musicians of the era." There has been some speculation that Kid Bailey was a pseudonym of the blues singer Willie Brown. Bailey's songs have been covered by Ian A. Doug Cox (musician)
Doug Cox (born in 1962 or 1963) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music programmer, and is currently signed to Toronto's NorthernBlues Music. He is well known for his skills on the dobro and slide guitar. Cox is the first person from Canada to perform in the Dobrofest. In 2004, Cox collaborated with Todd Butler and produced the CD, ''Dobro and Guitar'', which received a nomination from the Western Canadian Music Awards for "best roots music". The CD was also named "CD of the year" at the Vancouver Island Music Festival. Cox teamed with Indian veena player Salil Bhatt on two albums: ''Slide to Freedom'' in 2011 and ''Slide to Freedom 2'' in 2012. At times they were accompanied by John Boutté (vocals), Ramkumar Mishra (tabla), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (veena), and Dinah D (bass). Cox currently resides on Vancouver Island, Canada. Yazoo Records
Yazoo Records is an American record label founded in the mid-1960s by Nick Perls. It specializes in early American blues, country, jazz, and other rural American genres collectively known as roots music. History The first five releases (L 1001 to L 1005) were issued under the label name of Belzona Records. The label was then renamed Yazoo Records, and the first five releases were reissued under the new name. The Belzona and Yazoo labels featured an Art Deco drawing of a peacock, adapted from the 1927 label of Black Patti Records. For Yazoo Records Perls compiled rare 78-rpm recordings made in the 1920s by musicians such as Charley Patton, Blind Willie McTell, the Memphis Jug Band, Blind Blake, and Blind Lemon Jefferson. Nick Katzman
Nick Katzman (born 1951) is an American blues musician. Katzman was born in New York City, and lives in both Manhattan and Berlin, Germany. He plays in a variety of musical genres, including Chicago blues, Mississippi blues, Texas blues, and ragtime. Biography As a teenager in the 1960s, Katzman saw many of the surviving country blues guitarists who travelled north to play their music in clubs and at the folk festivals. He learned to lay both guitar and lute. He studied classical music and jazz at Antioch College in Ohio. His classical influences include Sylvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Sebastian Bach. His blues music was inspired by a number of musicians, including Charlie Patton, Kid Bailey, and Mississippi John Hurt. On his own website, Katzman also cites amongst his teachers the blues masters Mance Lipscomb, Reverend Gary Davis, Stefan Grossman and Rory Block. Thomasina Winslow
Thomasina Winslow (August 15, 1965 – January 13, 2023) was an American blues musician and the daughter of folk musician Tom Winslow. As a toddler, she sang back-up on her father's folk music classic ''Hey Looka Yonder (It's The Clearwater''); also singing a solo version of ''One-Two-Three'', another version of which she produced on her own 30 years later. In addition to her solo career, Winslow has been a member of four bands, including a duo with Nick Katzman and Nite Train. Furthermore, she has been a teacher in that genre of music, and has significantly influenced other aspiring musicians. Winslow primarily performed covers of Blues standards and has written a number of blues and gospel tunes in her own right. She was also one of a handful of African-American women producers in the "indy" music industry.
