Doug Cox (musician)
Doug Cox (born in 1962 or 1963) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music programmer, and is currently signed to Toronto's NorthernBlues Music. He is well known for his skills on the dobro and slide guitar. Cox is the first person from Canada to perform in the Dobrofest. In 2004, Cox collaborated with Todd Butler and produced the CD, ''Dobro and Guitar'', which received a nomination from the Western Canadian Music Awards for "best roots music". The CD was also named "CD of the year" at the Vancouver Island Music Festival. Cox teamed with Indian veena player Salil Bhatt on two albums: ''Slide to Freedom'' in 2011 and ''Slide to Freedom 2'' in 2012. At times they were accompanied by John Boutté (vocals), Ramkumar Mishra (tabla), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (veena), and Dinah D (bass). Cox currently resides on Vancouver Island, Canada. Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. Leela Gilday
Leela Gilday is a Dene-Canadian singer songwriter, born and raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She has released five solo albums since 2002, two of which have won the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year. Early life Gilday was born and raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She is the sister of singer-songwriter Jay Gilday. Gilday earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta in 1997. Michael Messer (born 28 February 1956) is an English singer, songwriter, slide guitarist, recording artist, producer, guitar designer/manufacturer. He is noteworthy for his ability to combine acoustic and electric National slide and lap steel guitar into his playing style. The American magazine ''Spirit'' listed Messer as one of the greatest slide guitarists alongside Duane Allman and Ry Cooder. Messer is included in the ''Virgin Encyclopaedia of the Blues''. Stony Plain Records is a Canadian independent record label, which specializes in roots music genres such as country, folk, and blues. The label has released more than 300 albums. History Stony Plain was founded by Holger Petersen and Alvin Jahns in 1976. The label released their first album that year. David Wilcox (Canadian Musician)
David Karl William Wilcox (born July 13, 1949) is a Canadian rock musician. Early life Born in Montreal, Wilcox drew inspiration from musician Elvis Presley at the age of six. Wilcox soon picked up the guitar and began playing, having his first live performance (to a room of ex-convicts) at fourteen years old. Career In 1970, Wilcox replaced Amos Garrett in Ian and Sylvia Tyson’s band, Great Speckled Bird, playing backup for acts such as Anne Murray, Carl Perkins, and Charlie Rich. In 1973, after two records, Wilcox left the band to go solo. Albert William Lee (born 21 December 1943) is an English guitarist known for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking technique. Lee has worked, both in the studio and on tour, with many famous musicians from a wide range of genres. He has also maintained a solo career and is a noted composer and musical director. Early life Lee was born in Lingen, Herefordshire, but grew up in Blackheath, London, a member of a Romani family. James Edward Burton (born August 21, 1939, in Dubberly, Louisiana) is an American guitarist. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2001 (his induction speech was given by longtime fan Keith Richards), Burton has also been recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Corinne West (born 1970) is an American singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist. She was born and raised in California.
