Kettlethorpe, originally a separate village, is a suburb that lies south of Wakefield city centre, in West Yorkshire, England. The suburb has a secondary education school, Kettlethorpe High School, which is a specialist maths and computing college. It was deemed to be good by Ofsted in 2011 and again in 2016. City Of Wakefield
The City of Wakefield is a local government district with the status of a city and metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Wakefield, the largest settlement, is the administrative centre of the district. The population of the City of Wakefield at the 2011 Census was 325,837. West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in the Yorkshire and Humber Region of England. Kettlethorpe High School (KHS) is a mixed secondary school with specialist status for maths and computing in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It provides for children ages 11–16, with a comprehensive admissions policy, and in January 2022 had an enrolment of 1,619 pupils. Qur'an controversy In February 2023, the school suspended four Year 10 pupils for causing minor damage to the pages of a personal copy of the Qur'an by dropping it accidentally. While there were rumours of deliberate damage, a school investigation finding there was no "malicious intent". The Free Speech Union wrote a letter demanding that West Yorkshire Police expunge the hate incident record against the four boys. The mother of one autistic boy said that he had stopped eating due to death threats, and Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed concern at the police involvement in the matter. Kettlethorpe Hall, West Yorkshire
Kettlethorpe Hall is a Georgian house in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The hall is a Grade I listed building. From 1847 until 1996, the grounds of the hall contained the façade of a 14th-century chapel on the front of a boathouse, which was a Grade II* listed building. History Kettlethorpe Hall is a Georgian house on the outskirts of Wakefield, built by the Pilkington family It is a two-storey building constructed of stone, and contains Doric columns. The house underwent multiple renovations in the 19th century. The first floor keystone showed the date of construction as 1727. In 1847, the façade of the 14th century Chantry Chapel (also known as the Sentry Chapel) on Wakefield Bridge was moved to Kettlethorpe Hall, and the original restored. Wentworth Castle
Wentworth Castle is a grade-I listed country house, the former seat of the Earls of Strafford, at Stainborough, near Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is now home to the Northern College for Residential and Community Education. An older house existed on the estate, then called Stainborough, when it was purchased by Thomas Wentworth, Baron Raby (later Earl of Strafford), in 1708. It was still called Stainborough in Jan Kip's engraved bird's-eye view of parterres and avenues, 1714, and in the first edition of '' Vitruvius Britannicus'', 1715. The name was changed in 1731. The original name survives in the form of Stainborough Castle, a sham ruin constructed as a garden folly on the estate. The estate was in the care of the Wentworth Castle Heritage Trust from 2001 to June 2019 and was open to the public year-round seven days a week.
