Kerala Sahitya Akademi
The Kerala Sahitya Akademi or Academy for Malayalam literature is an autonomous body established to promote the Malayalam language and literature. It is situated in City of Thrissur, Kerala in India. History The academy was inaugurated on 15 October 1956, by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the former king of Travancore, in Thiruvananthapuram. It was shifted to its present location at City of Thrissur in September, 1957. Though the Kerala Government provides the funding and support for the academy, the administration of the academy is autonomous according to its constitution. Unnikrishnan Puthoor
Unnikrishnan Puthur (20 July 1933 – 2 April 2014) was a Malayalam–language novelist and short story writer. Puthur wrote about 700 short stories and published 29 collections of short stories, 15 novels, a collection of poems and autobiographical writings, among others. He was awarded Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the novel ''Balikkallu'' in 1968. He received the Odakkuzhal Award in the year 2010 for the book ''Anubhavangalude Ner Rekhakal''. Death He died on 2 April 2014 at Raja hospital in Chavakkad, a town near his hometown, aged 80. He had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for quite some time. George Irumbayam
George Irumbayam is an Indian literary critic and literature researcher. Author of 39 literary and 7 spiritual books. Early life He was born on 19 December 1938 as the eldest child of Irumbayam Poovathunkal Varkey and Annamma, who totally had four children. He studied in the Kaarikkodu-Pothi-Thalayolapparambu schools between 1945 and 1956, and at St. Thomas College Pala from 1956 to 1957. Sreedharan Champad
Sreedharan Champad is circus artist, circus historian and Malayalam language writer from Kerala, India. He has worked in a number of fields, including working as circus manager, flying trapeze artist, circus company PRO, auto driver, bill collector, journalist and writer. Champad has written over 20 books including novels, more than 100 short stories, biographies and articles. His book ''An Album of Indian Big Tops'' chronicles the history of circus industry in India from 1880 to 2010. Biography Sreedharan was born in 1938 at Champad near Thalassery, Kannur district to Kunjikannan and Narayani. Sarah Thomas (writer)
Sarah Thomas (born 15 September 1934) is a Malayalam language writer from Kerala, India. Her novel ''Narmadi Pudava'' won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 1979. Thomas is also a recipient of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contribution to Malayalam Literature. Career Thomas had started writing long before the concept of feminine literature evolved in Malayalam. She published her first novel ''Jivitamenna Nadi'' at the age of 34. She became noted in the literary field after the publication of the novel ''Murippadukal'' in 1971. The novel narrated the life of a young man brought up in a Roman Catholic orphanage and later transferred to his Hindu ancestral home, where he is subtly persuaded to conform to Hindu religious beliefs.
