Kensuke Koike
(born June 28, 1980, in Nagoya, Japan) is a contemporary visual artist. Koike currently resides in Venice, Italy. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Venice (2004) and the Università Iuav di Venezia Faculty of Arts & Design (2007). He is best known for his collages. In 2016, he began a series in collaboration with French photography curator Thomas Sauvin Thomas Sauvin is a French photography collector and editor who lives in Beijing. Since 2006 he exclusively works as a consultant for the UK-based Archive of Modern Conflict, an independent archive and publisher, for whom he collects Chinese works, ... titled ''No More, No Less''. Using images selected by Sauvin, Koike shifts and swaps sections of the images without taking anything away, hence the title of the series. The is a public tertiary academy of art in Venice, Italy. History The Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia was founded on 24 September 1750; the statute dates from 1756. The first director was Giovanni Battista Piazzetta; Gianbattista Tiepolo became the first president after his return from Würzburg. The academy was at first housed in a room on the upper floor of the Fonteghetto della Farina, a flour warehouse and market on the Grand Canal, close to Piazza San Marco. The space was insufficient, and students and teachers had to contend with the noise and dust of the market, which also occupied the first floor of the building. Antonio Canova studied at the academy in the 1770s. In 1807, the academy was re-founded by Napoleonic decree. Thomas Sauvin is a French photography collector and editor who lives in Beijing. Since 2006 he exclusively works as a consultant for the UK-based Archive of Modern Conflict, an independent archive and publisher, for whom he collects Chinese works, from contemporary photography to period publications to anonymous photography. Sauvin has had exhibitions of his work, and published through Archive of Modern Conflict. Beijing Silvermine Sauvin started the Beijing Silvermine project, accumulating more than 850,000 anonymous color negatives (as of December 2019) destined for destruction in a Beijing recycling zone. It covers a period of 20 years, from 1985, namely when photographic film (which contains microscopically small light-sensitive silver halide crystals) started being used massively in China, to 2005, when digital photography started taking over.
