Karlien Van Jaarsveld
Karlien van Jaarsveld (born 1985) is a South African singer-songwriter in Afrikaans. Her debut album, ''As the Curtain Falls'', was released in 2010. Previously a member of a rock group, she is now a solo artist who has won several awards in South Africa. Early life Karlien van Jaarsveld was born on 21 December 1985, in Paarl, South Africa, the eldest of three children. Her brother, Bobby van Jaarsveld, is also a singer and she started performing with him in 2005 as his guitarist and background singer. She also sang a duet with her brother on his first album. Career Van Jaarsveld formed a rock band, Revolution (''Revolusie''), in 2006 and was its lead singer. In October 2008, she left the band to start a solo career. Her debut album, ''As the Curtain Falls'', was released in 2010. Her second album, ''Jakkals Trou Met Wolf Se Vrou'' (Jackal Marries Wolf's Wife), was released in 2011. Paarl
Paarl (; Afrikaans: ; derived from ''Parel'', meaning "pearl" in Dutch) is a town with 112,045 inhabitants in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Afrikaans (, ) is a West Germanic language that evolved in the Dutch Cape Colony from the Dutch vernacular of Holland proper (i.e., the Hollandic dialect) used by Dutch, French, and German settlers and their enslaved people. Pieter van Jaarsveld, professionally known as Bobby van Jaarsveld, (born 6 March 1987) is a South African Afrikaans-language pop singer-songwriter and actor. Early life Van Jaarsveld, who was nicknamed "Bobby" after his father, was born on 6 March 1987 in Paarl, Western Cape. Ghoema Music Awards
The Ghoema Music Awards is an annual South African award ceremony that recognises outstanding achievement in the Afrikaans music industry. It is the only independent music award ceremony of its kind in South Africa. The event was established in 2012 and the awards are presented by the Ghoema Trust. The ceremony is held in March every year, and contenders are judged on performances made in the previous year. The show broadcasts on KykNET. History The awards were founded in 2012 by Barry Pretorius. The Ghoema Music Award came under heavy criticism in 2019 when the decision was made to remove the hit song "Die Land", sung by various artists, thereby blocking any recognition the song has achieved. South African Music Award
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. Steve Hofmeyr (born 29 August 1964) is a South African singer, songwriter, writer, actor and former TV presenter. Personal life Hofmeyr married actress Natasha Sutherland, whom he had met on the set of '' Egoli: Place of Gold'' in 1998. They had two sons. Hofmeyr also has two sons and two daughters by other women. The couple was divorced after reports of numerous affairs dominated Hofmeyr's time in the spotlight in 2008.
