Karl Gustaf Hjalmar Armfeldt
Karl Gustaf (Gustav) Hjalmar Armfeldt (also spelled Armfelt; 6 April 1873 – 7 July 1959) was a Finnish silversmith and Fabergé workmaster. He was born in Artjärvi, Finland. In 1886, at age 13, he was apprenticed to the Finnish silversmith Paul Sohlman (1898–1904) in St. Petersburg at 42 Gorohovaya Street. He became a journeyman in 1891. He studied at the art school for five years until 1894. He worked as Fabergé's workmaster beginning in 1895, and used the mark ЯА. Armfeldt also worked under the silversmith Antti (Anders) Nevalainen and became his closest assistant in 1901. Artjärvi ( sv, Artsjö) is a List of former municipalities of Finland, former municipality of Finland. It was consolidated with the town of Orimattila on January 1, 2011. Fabergé Workmaster
A Fabergé workmaster was a skilled craftsman who owned his own workshop and produced jewelry, silver or objets d'art for the House of Fabergé. When Carl Fabergé took over the running of the business in 1882, its output increased so rapidly that the two Fabergé brothers could not manage all the workshops themselves. They therefore decided to establish independent workshops. The owners of these were committed to only work for the House of Fabergé, which would supply the sketches and models of the objects to be made. Nothing would be accepted by the House unless it had been approved by either Carl or his appointed deputy. The House of Fabergé also employed its own designers. Anders Nevalainen
Anders (Antti) Juhaninpoika Nevalainen (1 January 1858 – 1933) was a Finnish gold- and silversmith, and a Fabergé workmaster. Biography Anders Nevalainen was born in Kylänlahti village in Pielisjärvi, Finland. He was an apprentice in Finland and in St. Petersburg in 1874, a goldworker in 1875 (and registered as an employee of Fabergé), and a master goldsmith in 1885, opened his workshop at 35 Kazanskaya Street. As master first working in the jewelry atelier of August Holmström, he soon became head of workshop under exclusive contract with Fabergé. His workshop made silver-mounted frames in birchwood, palisander or lacquer, silver- and gold cigarette-cases, enameled silver-gilt cases with leather sleeves, several small silver-gilt objects.
