Karl-Heinz Steffens
Karl-Heinz Steffens (born 28 November 1961) is a German clarinetist and conductor. For the first part of his musical career, Steffens was a solo clarinetist, and also served as principal clarinet with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. From 2009 to 2018, Steffens was music director of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Ludwigshafen. During his tenure, the orchestra received such honours as the ECHO award for Best Orchestra in 2015 for their recording of works by Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Steffens was music director of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet from 2016 to 2018. In 2017, Steffens announced his intention to stand down early from the Den Norske Opera and Ballet post, owing to conflicts with then-incoming artistic director Annilese Miskimmon. Trier ( , ; lb, Tréier ), formerly known in English as Trèves ( ;) and Triers (see also names in other languages), is a city on the banks of the Moselle in Germany. Michael Francis (conductor)
Michael Francis (born 1976) is a British conductor. Biography Francis learnt the double bass as a youth. He was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, and graduated in 1997 from The Cardiff University School of Music. He played the double bass for the London Symphony Orchestra before he began conducting. His first public performance as conductor of a major orchestra occurred in January 2007 when he deputised for Valery Gergiev. In Europe, Francis became chief conductor and artistic adviser to the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in 2012, and held the post through 2016. In December 2016, Francis first guest-conducted the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra ( sv, Norrköpings Symfoniorkester) is a Swedish professional symphony orchestra. It is based at the concert hall De Geerhallen, in the center of Norrköping.
