Karjala (municipality)
Karjala is a former municipality of Finland in the former Turku and Pori Province, now in Finland Proper. It was consolidated with Mynämäki in 1977. Geography Karjala bordered Mynämäki, Mietoinen, Eura, Yläne and Laitila. Until 1970, it bordered Hinnerjoki and Honkilahti instead of Eura. Karjala is relatively forested in comparison to Mynämäki and especially Mietoinen, which are mostly former seafloor converted into farmland. Nearly 60 % of Karjala's land area is forested. Villages Name The name of Karjala may be related to the word ''karja'' (cattle), most likely indirectly, possibly through the village name ''Karjakoski'' in Mynämäki. The name is not related to that of Karelia, also known as ''Karjala'' in Finnish. The municipality has also been known as ''Karjalankorpi''. Laitila (; sv, Letala) is a town and a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southwest Finland region, and it is from Laitila to Turku. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The municipality is monolingually Finnish. Laitila is renowned for its poultry farms and "egg festival" (''Laitilan Munamarkkinat''), which is why the subject of the municipal coat of arms of Laitila also refers to the parish's fame for chicken care. There is a lot of demand for Laitila-based chicken eggs, as the local egg producer company Munax, among other things, has even planned to egg exports all the way to South Korea. Koski Tl (; sv, Koskis) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southwest Finland region and was part of the former province of Western Finland. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . ''Tl'' in the name means the former province of Turku and Pori ( fi, Turun ja Porin lääni). Honkilahti
Honkilahti ( sv, Honkilahti, also ) is a village and a former municipality in Finland, part of Eura since 1970. History The commune of Honkilahti was founded in 1904 when it was separated from Eura. Honkilaht was merged back with Eura in 1970. Honkilahti has a wooden church which "Tuomas Samuelinpoika Rahvenius" designed in 1759. It lies on the northern side of Koskeljärvi. Before Honkilahti were discontinued, it had many kilometers the coastline from Pyhäjärvi. The population of Honkilahti was at its peak in 1957 when there were 1887 inhabitants. Provinces Of Finland
Between 1634 and 2009, Finland was administered as several provinces ( fi, Suomen läänit, sv, Finlands län). Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy. There were never any elected provincial parliaments in continental Finland. The system was initially created in 1634. Its makeup was changed drastically on 1 September 1997, when the number of the provinces was reduced from twelve to six. This effectively made them purely administrative units, as linguistic and cultural boundaries no longer followed the borders of the provinces. The provinces were eventually abolished at the end of 2009. Consequently, different ministries may subdivide their areal organization differently. Eura is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Satakunta region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality of Kiukainen was consolidated with Eura on 1 January 2009. The municipality is one of the most distinguished places in Finland in terms of pre-historical findings.
