Honkilahti
Honkilahti ( sv, Honkilahti, also ) is a village and a former municipality in Finland, part of Eura since 1970. History The commune of Honkilahti was founded in 1904 when it was separated from Eura. Honkilaht was merged back with Eura in 1970. Honkilahti has a wooden church which "Tuomas Samuelinpoika Rahvenius" designed in 1759. It lies on the northern side of Koskeljärvi. Before Honkilahti were discontinued, it had many kilometers the coastline from Pyhäjärvi. The population of Honkilahti was at its peak in 1957 when there were 1887 inhabitants. The neighbouring municipalities of Honkilahti were Eura, Hinnerjoki, Laitila, Karjala, Mynämäki, Yläne and Säkylä. The arms of Honkilahti were designed by Gustaf von Numers and it was registered in 1951. Karjala (municipality)
Karjala is a former municipality of Finland in the former Turku and Pori Province, now in Finland Proper. It was consolidated with Mynämäki in 1977. Geography Karjala bordered Mynämäki, Mietoinen, Eura, Yläne and Laitila. Until 1970, it bordered Hinnerjoki and Honkilahti instead of Eura. Karjala is relatively forested in comparison to Mynämäki and especially Mietoinen, which are mostly former seafloor converted into farmland. Nearly 60 % of Karjala's land area is forested. Villages Name The name of Karjala may be related to the word ''karja'' (cattle), most likely indirectly, possibly through the village name ''Karjakoski'' in Mynämäki. The name is not related to that of Karelia, also known as ''Karjala'' in Finnish. The municipality has also been known as ''Karjalankorpi''. Pentti Eskola
Pentti Elias Eskola (8 January 1883 – 6 December 1964) was a Finnish geologist who specialised in the petrology of granites and developed the concept of metamorphic facies. He won the Wollaston Medal in 1958, the Vetlesen Prize in 1964, and was given a state funeral upon his death. The mineral eskolaite is named in his honor. Eskola was born in Lellainen, the son of a farmer. He graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1906 and received a doctorate in 1914 with a dissertation on the petrology of the Orijärvi Region. Eskola was a student of Wilhelm Ramsay Wilhelm Ramsay (20 January 1865 – 6 January 1928) was a Finland Swede geologist. Gustaf Von Numers
Gustaf von Numers (31 July 1912 – 21 May 1978) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish civil servant and leading heraldic artist. Life Gustaf von Numers studied heraldry in the 1930s under Arvid Berghman and was considered one of the leading Finnish experts in the area. He was a tireless writer on all heraldic matters. Together with colleagues in the field, he contributed to the initiation of the parliamentary law on communal coats of arms in 1949. Von Numers designed several communal coats of arms (including Jakobstad, Porvoo and Varpaisjärvi), military banners and personal and family heraldic signs. Von Numers was a founding member of thFinnish Heraldic Societyand its first chairman (1957 – 1964), as well as a member of the International Heraldic Academy ''(Académie Internationale d'Héraldique)'' from its founding in 1949.
