Louis Marie-Anne Couperus (10 June 1863 – 16 July 1923) was a Dutch novelist and poet. His oeuvre contains a wide variety of genres: lyric poetry, psychological and historical novels, novellas, short stories, fairy tales, feuilletons and sketches. Couperus is considered to be one of the foremost figures in Dutch literature. In 1923, he was awarded the ''Tollensprijs'' (Tollens Prize). Couperus and his wife travelled extensively in Europe and Asia, and he later wrote several related travelogues which were published weekly. Engelen
Engelen is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Brabant. It is part of the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch. Location and plan Engelen is located in the north of North Brabant. It borders the villages Vlijmen and Bokhoven as well as the industrial area De Vutter in `s-Hertogenbosch. Engelen is divided in several parts. The oldest part consists of the original village. The “new” part consists of the areas that were built before the current expansion took place. The newest part is called plan Haverleij. This consists of castle style housing blocks built around a courtyard / parking lot. Haverleij also includes an 18-hole golf course from Burg Golf. Haverleij borders Engelen Lock on the Dieze Canal. De Haverleij is also closer connecting Engelen to Bokhoven and Vlijmen. Gerrit Versteeg (architect)
Gerrit Versteeg (Vlaardingen, 2 August 1872 – Arnhem, 1938) was a Dutch urban architect., Nederlands Architectuurinstituut (1997) ''Muurvast & gebeiteld: beeldhouwkunst in de bouw 1840-1940.'' p. 131 Biography Versteeg was a son of Simon Versteeg and Alida Cornelia van der Kaaden, and grew up in Vlaardingen. His father was a farmer. In 1900, Gerrit married Hendrika Aleida Costerus. Versteeg studied in Delft for carpenter, and started his career at an architectural firm. Also he was assistant to Karel Sluijterman and to Eugen Gugel for some time. Between 1901 and 1914 he was Deputy Director of Public Works in Arnhem, under the director W.F.C. Sheep. Mr. Sheep was focused on urban design, and Versteeg was designed buildings. In this period many schools and commercial buildings were built, such as the tram depot, the slaughterhouse, the power plant and vegetable auction.
