Karachi Circular Railway
Karachi Circular Railway (abbreviated as KCR) ( ur, , Sindhi: ڪراچي سرڪيولر ريلوي) is a partially active regional public transit system in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, which serves the Karachi metropolitan area. KCR was fully operational between 1964 to 1994, until it was abruptly shutdown in 1999. Since 2001, several restart attempts were sought and in November 2020, the KCR partially revived operations on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan. With its hub at Karachi City station on I. I. Chundrigar Road, KCR's revived operations would extend north to Gadap, east to Dhabeji, south to Kiamari and west to Hub in Balochistan. The revived KCR operation is intended to become an inter-regional public transit system in Karachi, with an aim to connect the city centre with several industrial and commercial districts within the city and the outlying localities. Karachi Urban Transport Corporation (KUTC) ( ur, ) is a municipal agency responsible for planning and integrating road transport and public transport in the Metropolitan Karachi area. It has assumed other key initiatives including the construction of the Karachi Circular Railway and Karachi BRT as well as multiple other projects supporting public transport in the city. Balochistan ( ; bal, بلۏچستان; also romanised as Baluchistan and Baluchestan) is a historical region in Western and South Asia, located in the Iranian plateau's far southeast and bordering the Indian Plate and the Arabian Sea coastline. This arid region of desert and mountains is primarily populated by ethnic Baloch people. The Balochistan region is split between three countries: Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Karachi City Station ( ur, ), formerly McLeod Station, is one of two main Karachi railway terminals along with the Karachi Cantonment station. Karachi City Station is located on I. I. Chundrigar Road, adjacent to Habib Bank Plaza, in Karachi, Pakistan. This station is headquarters of the Pakistan Railways - Karachi Division. North Nazimabad
North Nazimabad ( ur, نارتھ ناظم آباد) is a suburb of, Karachi, Pakistan. North Nazimabad was developed in the late 1950s as a residential area for the employees of the federal government of Pakistan, and was named after Khawaja Nazimuddin who was the second Governor-General of Pakistan and later the second Prime Minister of Pakistan. History Before the independence of Pakistan, the area of the present day North Nazimabad was semi-arid land with small Sindhi and Kalmati Baloch villages nearly 15 km from downtown Karachi. The Government of Pakistan bought the land in 1950 from the local landlord and tribal leader Masti Brohi Khan in order to resettle the Muslim refugees from India that were living in tent cities in central Karachi. Landhi railway station ( ur, , sd, لانڍي ريلوي اسٽيشن) is one of three major railway stations in Karachi, Pakistan. It is situated in the east end of the city near Quaidabad in Landhi and serves as a major stop along the Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line. Muhammad Ayub Khan (Urdu: ; 14 May 1907 – 19 April 1974), was the second President of Pakistan. He was an army general who seized the presidency from Iskander Mirza in a coup in 1958, the first successful coup d'état in the country's history. Popular demonstrations and labour strikes supported by the protests in East Pakistan ultimately led to his forced resignation in 1969. During his presidency, differences between East and West Pakistan arose to an enormous degree, that ultimately led to the Independence of East Pakistan. Trained at the British Royal Military College, Ayub Khan fought in World War II as a colonel in the British Indian Army before deciding to transfer to the Pakistan Army in the aftermath of the partition of India in 1947.
