Kansas's 26th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican Party (United States), Republican Dan Kerschen since 2013, following his primary defeat of fellow Republican Dick Kelsey (politician), Dick Kelsey. Geography District 26 covers the southern and southwestern suburbs of Wichita, Kansas, Wichita in Sedgwick County, Kansas, Sedgwick County, including some of Wichita proper as well as Haysville, Kansas, Haysville, Mulvane, Kansas, Mulvane, Cheney, Kansas, Cheney, Garden Plain, Kansas, Garden Plain, and parts of Derby, Kansas, Derby, Clearwater, Kansas, Clearwater, and Goddard, Kansas, Goddard. Kansas () is a U.S. state, state in the Midwestern United States, Midwestern United States. Its Capital city, capital is Topeka, Kansas, Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita, Kansas, Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kaw people, Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. Goddard, Kansas
Goddard is a city in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States, and a suburb of Wichita. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 5,084. History In 1883, Ezekiel Wilder purchased farmland on the planned railway of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway south of Blendon, Kansas, approximately west of Wichita. There, he established the town of Goddard in honor of J. F. Goddard, former third vice-president of the ATSF Railway. The railroad reached Goddard in 1884, and a post office was established there the same year. Several buildings were relocated from Blendon, including the town hall and the planned Methodist church. Goddard was officially incorporated in 1910. On June 23, 1969, an F4 tornado struck Goddard. No fatalities occurred, but six people were injured. The 2012 United States presidential election in Kansas took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Kansas voters chose six electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden, against Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan. Kris William Kobach ( ; born March 26, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who is the Attorney General of Kansas. He previously served as the 31st Secretary of State of Kansas. 2018 Kansas Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Kansas gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next Governor of Kansas. Democratic nominee Laura Kelly won the election, defeating Republican nominee Kris Kobach and independent candidate Greg Orman. Incumbent Republican Governor Sam Brownback was term-limited and could not seek reelection to a third consecutive term.
