Kansas's 21st Senate District
Kansas's 21st Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Dinah Sykes since 2017; Sykes was first elected as a Republican Party (United States), Republican but switched parties in 2018. Geography District 21 is based in Lenexa, Kansas, Lenexa in the Johnson County, Kansas, Johnson County suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, covering the vast majority of that city as well as smaller parts of Overland Park, Kansas, Overland Park and Shawnee, Kansas, Shawnee. The district is located entirely within Kansas's 3rd congressional district, and overlaps with the 14th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 121st districts of the Kansas House of Representatives. Kansas () is a U.S. state, state in the Midwestern United States, Midwestern United States. Its Capital city, capital is Topeka, Kansas, Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita, Kansas, Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kaw people, Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks.
