Kaiserslautern Basin
The Kaiserslautern Basin (german: Kaiserslauterer Senke) is part of the link between Lorraine and the northern Upper Rhine Lowland. In the centre of the Kaiserslautern Basin lies the Landstuhl Marsh (''Landstuhler Bruch''), also called the West Palatine Moor Depression ( ''Westpfälzische Moorniederung'') or Westrich Moor Depression (''Westricher Moorniederung''). Location and boundaries The basin extends in length from east to west for about 50 kilometres from the area around Bexbach to Alsenborn. Its width varies between three and seven kilometres. The landscape ends in the east at the Palatine Forest, in the south on the edge of the Zweibrücken Westrich and in the north at North Palatine Uplands and covers a total of 236 km². Lorraine (region)

Upper Rhine
The Upper Rhine (german: Oberrhein ; french: Rhin Supérieur) is the section of the Rhine between Basel in Switzerland and Bingen in Germany, surrounded by the Upper Rhine Plain. The river is marked by Rhine-kilometres 170 to 529 (the scale beginning in Konstanz and ending in Rotterdam). The ''Upper Rhine'' is one of four sections of the river (the others being the High Rhine, Middle Rhine and Lower Rhine) between Lake Constance and the North Sea. The Landstuhl Marsh or Landstuhl Bog (german: (Spesbach-)Landstuhler Bruch , ''Westricher Moorniederung'' or ''Westpfälzische Moorniederung'') is a region in West Palatinate in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Alsenborn
Alsenborn () is a village forming part of the municipality of Enkenbach-Alsenborn within the district of Kaiserslautern in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It has a population of 2,750. Until 1969 Alsenborn was an independent parish before merging with Enkenbach under the administrative reforms in the state. Alsenborn is known country-wide for its circus troupes, the football team of SV Alsenborn, which competed for promotion to the premier league in 1970, and as the home town of Fritz Walter, the 1954 captain of the German Football Team and World Cup champions. Zweibrücken (; french: Deux-Ponts, ; Palatinate German: ''Zweebrigge'', ; literally translated as "Two Bridges") is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, on the Schwarzbach river. The Rentals are an American rock band fronted by vocalist Matt Sharp. Sharp has been the only consistent member since the group's inception. The band's best selling single is "Friends of P" (1995). The Rentals released two albums, ''Return of the Rentals'' (1995) and '' Seven More Minutes'' (1999) on Maverick Records before quietly splitting in 1999 following a world tour. The North Palatine Uplands (german: Nordpfälzer Bergland), sometimes shortened to Palatine Uplands (''Pfälzer Bergland''), is a low mountain range and landscape unit in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs mainly to the Palatinate region. It is part of the Saar-Nahe Uplands. Geography Location The North Palatine Uplands lie – roughly stated – between St. Wendel in the state of Saarland to the west and three towns belonging to Rhineland-Palatinate: Alzey to the east, Kaiserslautern to the south and Bad Kreuznach to the north, although these towns are not actually within the region itself. Bunter Sandstone
The Buntsandstein (German for ''coloured'' or ''colourful sandstone'') or Bunter sandstone is a lithostratigraphic and allostratigraphic unit (a sequence of rock strata) in the subsurface of large parts of west and central Europe. The Buntsandstein predominantly consists of sandstone layers of the Lower Triassic series and is one of three characteristic Triassic units, together with the Muschelkalk and Keuper that form the Germanic Trias Supergroup. The Buntsandstein is similar in age, facies and lithology with the Bunter of the British Isles. It is normally lying on top of the Permian Zechstein and below the Muschelkalk.
