Kāhala, Hawaii
Kāhala, is a neighborhood in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kahala contains a large concentration of expensive real estate and beachfront properties, which include some of the most expensive in the entire state. Kahala consists of approximately 1,200 homes. The neighborhood is considered a “cinderella story” because it went from farmland to one of the nicest neighborhoods on Oahu. Kahala is also home to the Kahala Hotel & Resort, formerly known as the Kahala Mandarin Oriental, and prior to the Kahala Hilton. Also located along the borders are Kahala Mall, and Diamond Head crater. The Kahala Hotel & Resort is a luxury hotel on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii. It first opened in 1964 as the Kahala Hilton. Developed as an exclusive retreat away from Waikiki, the resort became a popular destination for celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Elton John; foreign dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II, the Reverend Desmond Tutu, and the Dalai Lama; and eight United States presidents. Kahala Mall
Kahala Mall is an indoor shopping mall in the Kāhala neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii on the East Side of the island of Oahu. In addition to its service as a major shopping center, Kahala Mall also serves as a key stop on a number of TheBus routes. It is located on Waialae Avenue, near the point at which Interstate H1 becomes Kalanianaole Highway. History Opening in November 1954 as Waialae Shopping Center, it was renovated in 1969-1970 by Philip Lyon, Gordon and Company and became known as Kahala Mall. It once included the first F.W. Woolworth Company dime store in Hawaii. Waialae Bowl, the only bowling center within several miles of the neighborhood, at one time operated at the mall, but has since closed. Originally named Branfleet as a portmanteau of the founders' surnames, Kahala is the oldest currently operating apparel company in Hawai‘i. She is famous for working with Tetsuya Komuro who gave her much success in the 1990s, which led to her deep dip in popularity after 1999, the year in which she released her first non-TK produced album, '' One Fine Day''.
