KZAR
KZAR (97.7 FM) is an Air 1 affiliate radio station licensed to McQueeney, Texas, United States. The station serves the San Antonio area with a contemporary worship music format. The station is owned by Educational Media Foundation. History KZAR began operations in July 1989 as KQRO-FM, a 3 kilowatt class A facility licensed to Cuero, Texas, changing call letters to KVCQ in 1995, KNGT in 2003, and KLTO-FM in 2005. It moved to its current tower, licensed to McQueeney, Texas, and upgraded to the current C1 class by 2008. When it moved to San Antonio, KLTO-FM broadcast a reggaeton format until 2008, then changed to rock under the "977 Rock" branding. On February 4, 2011, the station changed formats to top 40 as "Party 97.7". The station's direction leaned towards dance, but played the usual top 40/CHR fare, similar to rivals KXXM and KTFM. KBBT (98.5 FM, "98.5 The Beat") is a rhythmic contemporary radio station serving the San Antonio, Texas area, but is licensed to Schertz. This station is owned by Uforia Audio Network under licensee Univision Radio Illinois, Inc. The station's studios are located in Northwest San Antonio and the transmitter site located in the unincorporated Bexar County near Government Canyon Park. Station history KBBT originally launched as country outlet KBOP-FM at 98.3 and licensed to Pleasanton, Texas, in 1968. They later changed call letters to KBUC in 1993 but kept the Country format intact. KZAI (103.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Christian Worship format through the nationally programmed Air1 network. The station is licensed to Balcones Heights, Texas, United States, and serves the San Antonio area. The transmitter is located in San Antonio proper, due north of downtown and adjacent to Interstate 10. KZAI is owned by the Educational Media Foundation. Originally a station in the Corpus Christi area, the station moved in 2021 as part of a facilities shuffle that moved a third EMF signal into San Antonio (alongside existing K-Love outlet KZLV and rimshot Air1 outlet KZAR). McQueeney, Texas
McQueeney is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Guadalupe County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History German settlers first moved to the area around 1870. When the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio railroad was built through the area in 1876, the stop was named "Hilda". In 1900, a local businessman, C. F. Blumberg, built a general store east of the rail stop. Hoping to get the railroad to move the stop from Hilda to his store, Blumberg called the site "McQueeney", in honor of the local railroad superintendent. The railroad was not persuaded, but the post office that opened in 1900 was called McQueeney. Lake McQueeney was created in 1925 by damming the Guadalupe River. Air1 is an American Christian radio, Christian radio network. Owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF), it primarily broadcasts contemporary worship music, and is a sister to the EMF's K-Love network. History In 1986, KLRD began broadcasting Christian Hit/Rock music from Yucaipa, California, and went by the on-air moniker K-LORD. In 1994, KLXD, KXRD was started as a sister station to KLRD. In 1995, K-LORD changed its name to "Air1" and began broadcasting via satellite from St. Helens, Oregon. The Alpha Media outlet operates with an effective radiated power of 10.5 kw and its city of license is Floresville, Texas. Its studios are located in Northeast San Antonio, and the transmitter site is in southeast Bexar County. History The station originally signed on the air at 6 a.m. on March 25, 1991, where it carried a Texas music format. The station was owned by longtime San Antonio-area broadcaster John Barger.
