K² (band)
K² is a progressive rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band is composed of bassist/keyboardist Ken Jaquess (Atlantis, New Cross), keyboardist Ryo Okumoto ( Spock's Beard, Natalie Cole), drummer Doug Sanborn ( the Untouchables), electric violinist Yvette Devereaux, singer Shaun Guerin, guitarist Allan Holdsworth ( Tempest, Soft Machine, Gong and U.K.) and guitarist John Miner ( Art Rock Circus, Mantra Sunrise). History K² was founded by Ken Jaquess. When Jaquess' previous group, Atlantis. disbanded in 2000, he was left with a full album's worth of new material that was originally to become Atlantis' third album. The untitled project needed a new vehicle, and Jaquess decided to take the advice of an old friend and finally produce a solo album. Natalie Maria Cole (February 6, 1950 – December 31, 2015) was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was the daughter of American singer and jazz pianist Nat King Cole. Art Rock Circus is an American progressive rock band. Background Art Rock Circus was founded in Las Vegas in 1995 first commissioned to perform the Rock Opera '' Heavens Cafe'' for Las Vegas-based Tributary Productions. Promoter Mike Lewis then financed and founded Tributary Records with John Miner for the purpose of creating an independent record label to support the growing resurgence of contemporary progressive rock in the 1990s. Miner's previous work with art rock band Mantra Sunrise provided John Miner with left over material that was instrumental in the development of ''Heavens Cafe'' as a theatrical piece. Gong (band)
Gong are a progressive rock band that incorporates elements of jazz and space rock into their musical style. The group was formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen and English vocalist Gilli Smyth. Band members have included Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Laswell and Theo Travis. Others who have played on stage with Gong include Don Cherry, Chris Cutler, Bill Bruford, Brian Davison, Dave Stewart and Tatsuya Yoshida. Tempest (UK Band)
Tempest was a British progressive rock band active from 1972 to 1974. Its core members were Jon Hiseman on drums and Mark Clarke on bass. They released two studio albums before breaking up. History Hiseman and Clarke had played in Colosseum together and formed Tempest at the beginning of 1973. For the band's first, eponymous album (originally called ''Jon Hiseman's Tempest''), the line-up was completed by Allan Holdsworth on guitar and Paul Williams on vocals and keyboards. Later in Tempest's brief history, they were joined by Ollie Halsall, who had played guitar with progressive rock band Patto. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s.
