Art Rock Circus
Art Rock Circus is an American progressive rock band. Background Art Rock Circus was founded in Las Vegas in 1995 first commissioned to perform the Rock Opera '' Heavens Cafe'' for Las Vegas-based Tributary Productions. Promoter Mike Lewis then financed and founded Tributary Records with John Miner for the purpose of creating an independent record label to support the growing resurgence of contemporary progressive rock in the 1990s. Miner's previous work with art rock band Mantra Sunrise provided John Miner with left over material that was instrumental in the development of ''Heavens Cafe'' as a theatrical piece. The new band was formed with musicians from the Las Vegas area who were capable of executing the complexities of the material that included many odd time signatures and melodic counterpoint. ''Heavens Cafe'' was first staged at the Flamingo Theater in Las Vegas in July 1996 with an all original cast of talent that was heavily auditioned from the extensive perfo ...

Allan Holdsworth
Allan Holdsworth (6 August 1946 – 15 April 2017) was a British jazz fusion and progressive rock guitarist and composer. Holdsworth was known for his esoteric and idiosyncratic usage of advanced music theory concepts, especially with respect to melody and harmony. His music incorporates a vast array of complex chord progressions, often using unusual chord shapes in an abstract way based on his understanding of "chord scales", and intricate improvised solos, frequently across shifting tonal centres. He used myriad scale forms often derived from those such as the Lydian, diminished, harmonic major, augmented, whole tone, chromatic and altered scales, among others, often resulting in an unpredictable and dissonant " outside" sound. His unique legato soloing technique stemmed from his original desire to play the saxophone. Unable to afford one, he strove to use the guitar to create similarly smooth lines of notes. He also became associated with playing an early form of gu ...

Rock Opera
A rock opera is a collection of rock music songs with lyrics that relate to a common story. Rock operas are typically released as concept albums and are not scripted for acting, which distinguishes them from operas, although several have been adapted as rock musicals. The use of various character roles within the song lyrics is a common storytelling device. The success of the rock opera genre has inspired similar works in other musical styles, such as rap opera. History A number of rock artists became interested in the idea of creating a rock opera in the 1960s. In an early use of the term, the July 4, 1966, edition of ''RPM Magazine'' (published in Toronto) reported that "Bruce Cockburn and Mr illiamHawkins are working on a Rock Opera, operating on the premise that to write you need only 'something to say'." Mark Wirtz explored the idea in a project ''A Teenage Opera'', from which an early song " Excerpt from A Teenage Opera (Grocer Jack)" recorded by Keith West was release ...

Beane's new vision for the project came to fruition in May 2004 with a six-week California run at the Insurgo Theater which included Ken Jaquess from K² (band) on bass, Yvette Devereaux violin and Nolan Stolz on drums.
