Kwamé Ryan (born 1970 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Trinidadian conductor. Career Early history and education Ryan is the son of Joya Gomez, a school teacher and actress and Selwyn Ryan, a university professor. Having set his sights on a career in conducting as a pre-teen, he had his primary and early musical education at the University School, St Augustine, Trinidad and studied piano, violin and voice privately. Requiring wider exposure to Classical music, Ryan moved to the United Kingdom, where he attended Oakham School, in Rutland, England, and then studied Musicology at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and conducting with Peter Eötvös in Hungary. In Germany, Ryan attended the University of Tübingen for two years, for language and culture studies. Neither (opera)
''Neither'' is the only opera by Morton Feldman, dating from 1977. Its libretto is a 16-line poem by Samuel Beckett. Composer and librettist had met in Berlin two years earlier with plans for a collaboration for Rome Opera. However, Beckett told Feldman that he himself did not like opera. Feldman had echoed Beckett’s sentiment, so that the work emerged in Rome as a setting for soprano soloist only, accompanied by orchestra. It could theoretically be termed a “monodrama”; however, given the creators’ disdain for opera, the label “anti-opera” fits better. Paul Daniel (born 5 July 1958) is an English conductor. Biography Early life Daniel was born in Birmingham. As a boy, he sang in the choir of Coventry Cathedral, where he received musical training; then studied music at King's College, Cambridge. He learned conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where his teachers included Sir Adrian Boult and Sir Edward Downes. Career In 1982, Daniel received a position on the musical staff of the English National Opera and remained there until 1987. In the late 1980s, he was the musical director of a number of amateur choirs, including Wokingham Choral Society, often featuring his future wife, the soprano Joan Rodgers.
