Kwak Kyung-taek
Kwak Kyung-taek (; born 23 May 1966) is a South Korean film director best known for his 2001 record-breaking film ''Friend''. Career ''Friend'', a drama where conflicting criminal alliances turn old friends into enemies, set a new Korean box office record with an audience of 8 million, and he received the Holden Award for the Best Script at the 2001 Torino Film Festival. In 2003 he received an award at the Philadelphia Film Festival for the boxing drama film ''Champion''. His 2005 action film ''Typhoon'', however, was a commercial failure. Kwak () is a Korean surname. Overview The family name Kwak is written with a hanja meaning "city walls" (; ; also called ). The same character is also used to write the family names Guō in Mandarin Chinese, Kwok in Cantonese, Kaku in Japanese, and Quach in Vietnamese. Pained
''Pained'' (; lit. "Pain") is a 2011 South Korean film directed by Kwak Kyung-taek. Kwak's first feature in three years, it is a romantic melodrama set in Seoul, which is a departure from the director's previous Busan-based masculine thrillers and gangster movies. It is adapted from an original story by popular webtoon artist Kang Full. Plot Debt collector Nam-soon (Kwon Sang-woo) lost his sense of pain after a traumatic accident during his youth, and now regularly takes beatings for his job. Street vendor Dong-hyun (Jung Ryeo-won) suffers from severe hemophilia, a disorder that impedes the body's ability to stop bleeding. For Dong-hyun, even the most minor of injuries could be deadly. ''The Battle of Jangsari'' () is a 2019 South Korean action-war film co-directed by Kwak Kyung-taek and Kim Tae-hoon, starring Kim Myung-min, Megan Fox, and Choi Min-ho in the lead roles. The second installment in a trilogy following ''Operation Chromite'', the film tells the true story of a group of 772 student soldiers who staged a small diversionary operation at Jangsari beach in Yeongdeok to draw away North Korean attention from Incheon. ''A Love'' () is a 2007 South Korean action drama film starring Joo Jin-mo and Park Si-yeon and directed by Kwak Kyung-taek. Plot In-ho is a naive but tough teenager, who is trying hard to stay out of trouble, but he willingly sacrifices everything to protect his childhood girlfriend Mi-ju.
