Kwak Ji-kyoon
Kwak Ji-kyoon (born Kwak Jung-kyoon, November 10, 1954 – May 25, 2010) was a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Kwak made his directorial debut in 1986 with the film ''Winter Wanderer'', and later directed '' Portrait of the Days of Youth'' (1991) and ''Plum Blossom'' (2000). He committed suicide on May 25, 2010, after suffering from depression for 10 years. Daejeon
Daejeon () is South Korea's fifth-largest metropolis, with a population of 1.5 million as of 2019. The Grand Bell Awards (), also known as the Daejong Film Awards, is an awards ceremony presented annually by The Motion Pictures Association of Korea for excellence in film in South Korea. The Grand Bell Awards retains prestige as the oldest continuous film awards held in South Korea, and has been called the Korean equivalent of the American Academy Awards. Plum Blossom (film)
''Plum Blossom'' (; lit. "Youth") is a 2000 South Korean coming-of-age film written and directed by Kwak Ji-kyoon. Plot Kim Ja-hyo, a teenage boy, moves to a new high school in his senior year. His classmate Jeong Ha-ra seduces him, and he loses his virginity with her. Afterwards, he becomes frightened when Ha-ra obsessively declares her love for him, so he begins to avoid her. Devastated by his indifference, Ha-ra commits suicide in front of the whole school. Since then, though Ja-hyo sleeps around in college, he is unable to form lasting attachments with women.
