Kwaggafontein
Kwaggafontein is a town along the Moloto Road (R573) under Thembisile Hani Local Municipality Jurisdiction in the Nkangala District Municipality, which is located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. It was established in the late 1940s by the Amandebele tribe. The Ndebele people came from farms that today are in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces. Many around current day Bronkhorstspruit, Delmas, Mpumalanga, Delmas and Balmoral, Mpumalanga, Balmoral. It is a modern, civilised area consisting of schools, Kwagga Mall (formerly Kwagga Plaza), and a market. Nomenclature The place gets its name from the extinct quagga animal. The area was once a farm for quaggas (zebra and donkey breeds). It is also called Mkobola by the locals. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Bronkhorstspruit
Bronkhorstspruit is a town 50 km east of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa along the N4 highway towards Witbank. It also includes three townships called Zithobeni, Rethabiseng and Ekangala. On 18 May 2011, the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality took over the municipal administration from the abolished Kungwini Local Municipality, which makes Bronkhorstspruit part of Tshwane. History In 1858, a group of Voortrekkers settled beside the Bronkhorst Spruit creek, which was originally called Kalkoenkransrivier ('turkey cliff river'). The town was laid out on land of the farm ''Hondsrivier'' in 1904 owned by C.J.G. Erasmus and was initially named after him. It adopted the name Bronkhorstspruit in 1935. Delmas, Mpumalanga
Delmas is a small maize farming town situated east of Johannesburg in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The town is located some 19 km north-east of Springs and 73 km south-east of Pretoria. History The town was laid out in 1907 on the farm ''Witklip'' (Afrikaans for ''White Stone'') and has been administered by a town council since 1965. The name was given by the Frenchman Frank Campbell Dumat, former owner of Witklip, after his grandfather's farm in France. He originally laid out the town with 192 residential stands, 48 4 ha small holdings and 138 ha of commonage but by 1909 the governments added a further 5,500 ha to the town. Balmoral, Mpumalanga
Balmoral is a town in the Emalahleni Local Municipality in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The village was established as a railway station of the '' Oosterlijn'' from Pretoria to Maputo in 1894. The village and railway station were erected at the farm ''Eenzaamheid''. For decades the village was nothing more than a railway stop with a primary school for the surrounding farms. During the Second Boer War, the British built a concentration camp near the railway station. Development plans In 1997, several Afrikaner businessmen, including the chairman of the Boere-Republiek Koöperatief Beperk (Boers Republic Co-operative Limited), Fritz Meyer, bought three parts of the farm Eenzaamheid outside the village. Quagga
The quagga ( or ) (''Equus quagga quagga'') is a subspecies of the plains zebra that was endemic to South Africa until it was hunted to extinction in the late 19th century. It was long thought to be a distinct species, but early genetic studies have supported it being a subspecies of plains zebra. A more recent study suggested that it was the southernmost cline or ecotype of the species. The quagga is believed to have been around long and tall at the shoulder. It was distinguished from other zebras by its limited pattern of primarily brown and white stripes, mainly on the front part of the body. The rear was brown and without stripes, and appeared more horse-like. The distribution of stripes varied considerably between individuals. Little is known about the quagga's behaviour, but it may have gathered into herds of 30–50.
