Kuta Bongabong
The Ruins of the Church of Kuta or Fuerza de Bongabong are the remnants of an 18th-century church built by the Recollects in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. History The Recollect mission of Bongabong was first mentioned in the ''Libro de Registros'' in 1737. The church served as garrison for the townsfolk in times of Muslim raids. It was destroyed during the Muslim raids between 1753 and 1754. Bongabong
Bongabong, officially the Municipality of Bongabong ( tgl, Bayan ng Bongabong), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 76,973 people. The town is home to Kuta Bongabong (Fuerza de Bongabong), one of the oldest Spanish colonial fortifications in the Philippines. The fort is in dire need of proper conservation. The only agency with the proper capabilities to restore the fort is the National Museum of the Philippines. Oriental Mindoro ( tl, Silangang Mindoro), officially the Province of Oriental Mindoro, is a province in the Philippines located on the island of Mindoro under Mimaropa region in Luzon, about southwest of Manila. The Recollects (french: Récollets) were a French reform branch of the Order of Friars Minor, Friars Minor, a Franciscan order. Denoted by their gray habits and pointed hoods, the Recollects took vows of poverty and devoted their lives to prayer, penance, and spiritual reflection. Today, they are best known for their presence as missionaries in various parts of the world, most notably in early Canada. The order had its origins in the 16th century.
