Electoral District Of Kurilpa
Kurilpa was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland from 1912 to 1986. It was named for the Kurilpa Peninsula on the Brisbane River. Until 1960, it was based in the inner southern Brisbane suburbs of West End and the western parts of South Brisbane, but after that, also included Dutton Park, Fairfield, Highgate Hill and parts of Yeronga and Annerley. The seat was created at the 1910 distribution out of part of the two-member South Brisbane seat, and was abolished at the distribution ahead of the 1986 election. The seat's last member, Anne Warner, transferred to South Brisbane, which absorbed most of Kurilpa's territory. West End is an inner southern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , West End had a population of 9,474 people. The Australian Aborigine, Aboriginal name for the area is ''Kurilpa'', which means ''place of the water rat''. Geography Geographically, West End is bounded by the median of the Brisbane River to the west and the south. Hill End is a neighbourhood () within West End in the south-west of the suburb near the Brisbane River. Fawn-footed Mosaic-tailed Rat
The fawn-footed mosaic-tailed rat, or fawn-footed melomys (''Melomys cervinipes'') is a species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is found along eastern coastal regions of Australia. The upper parts of this species are a sandy-brown colour, the mottling at the lower parts is grey and whitish. The tail is hairless, the skin of which has a purplish tone. The superficial distinguishing characteristics include soft and short fur, lacking the long guard hairs of other species and adpressed against the body. John Gould proposed the epithet ''cervinipes'' for the "fawn-like colouring" of the feet and tarsi, assigning it to the genus '' Mus'' and giving an English name of "Buff-footed Rat". Gould received his specimens from the early natural history collector Frederick Strange, who labelled the collections as being "Stradbrook Island, Moreton Bay, where it is called ''Corrill'' by the natives,—Richmond River, where the Aborigines term it ''Cunduoo'',—and the plains bordering the ... Kurilpa Bridge
The Kurilpa Bridge (originally known as the Tank Street Bridge) is a 63 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The bridge connects Kurilpa Point in South Brisbane to Tank Street in the Brisbane central business district. In 2011, the bridge was judged World Transport Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. Baulderstone built the bridge and the company's design team included Cox Rayner Architects and Arup Engineers. A sod turning ceremony was held at Kurilpa Park, South Brisbane on 12 December 2007. The bridge was opened on 4 October 2009 by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh. Structure Kurilpa Bridge is the world's largest hybrid tensegrity bridge.
