Kurigram Express
Kurigram Express (Train no. 797-798) is a non-stop intercity train that runs between Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) and the northern Kurigram District. This train provides a more effective connection between the capital and northern Bengal. History On October 16, 2019, prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this train service by video conference. This named train service is running with the cars imported from Indonesia. The coaches are originately PT INKA rolling stock. Locomotives and seats The train has 14 coaches in addition to a locomotive. Schedule Kurigram Express begins its journey from Kurigram at 7:20 am and it reaches Dhaka at 5:25 pm. On the return trip, it leaves Dhaka at 8:45 pm and reaches Kurigram at 6:15 am. Kurigram District ( bn, কুড়িগ্রাম) is a district of Bangladesh in the Rangpur Division. The district is located in northern Bangladesh along the country's border with India. Under Indian rule, the area was organized as a mahakuma and was not established as a district until 1984. Etymology The name "Kurigram" is derived from the words ''Kuri'' and ''Gram''. Kamalapur Railway Station, officially known as Dhaka Railway Station, is the central railway station in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. It is the largest station and the busiest infrastructure for transportation in the country that acts as a gateway of the country's capital. It is also considered to be one of the most modern and striking buildings in the decade of its establishment. It was opened on 1 May 1968. Parbatipur ( bn, পার্বতীপুর) is a railway junction in Dinajpur district of Rangpur Division in Bangladesh. History During the British period all railway connections to Assam and North Bengal were through the eastern part of Bengal. From 1878, the railway route from Kolkata, then called Calcutta, to Siliguri was in two laps. The first lap was a 185 km journey along the Eastern Bengal State Railway from Calcutta Station (later renamed Sealdah) to Damookdeah Ghat on the southern bank of the Padma River, then across the river in a ferry and the second lap of the journey, which was a 336 km metre gauge line of the North Bengal Railway that linked Saraghat on the northern bank of the Padma to Siliguri. The 1.8 km long Hardinge Bridge across the Padma came up in 1912. Santahar ( bn, সান্তাহার) is a railway junction in Adamdighi Upazila in Bogra District of Rajshahi Division in Bangladesh. History From 1878, the railway route from Kolkata, then called Calcutta, to Siliguri was in two laps.
