Kurdish Film
Kurdish cinema focuses on the Kurdish people and culture. The fate of the Kurds as a people without a state shaped their cinema. Kurdish films often show social grievances, oppression, torture, human rights violations, and life as a stranger. Kurdish cinema has a high significance for the Kurds, as it offers the opportunity to draw attention to their own situation artistically. However, because of state repression, most films are produced in exile. The best example of this is in Turkey, where Kurds were not permitted to speak their native language until 1991, which made the development of their films more difficult. The Kurdish population is estimated at 15–20 million in Turkey, 10–12 million in Iran, 8–8.5 million in Iraq, 3–3.6 million in Syria, 1.2–1.5 million in the European diaspora, and 400k–500k in the former USSR—for a total of 36.4 million to 45.6 million globally. Mem And Zin
''Mem and Zin'' ( ku, Mem û Zîn) is a Kurdish classic love story written down in 1692 and is considered to be the épopée of Kurdish literature. It is the most important work of Kurdish writer and poet Ahmad Khani (1651-1707). ''Mam and Zin'' is based on a true story, laid down from generation to generation through oral tradition. The story has multiple facets among which are the presence of Sufi discourse and Kurdish nationalism. The ''Mem-u Zin Mausoleum'' in Cizre province has become a tourist attraction. Synopsis It tells the tragic story of two young people in love. Mem, a young Kurdish boy of the "Alan" clan and heir to the ''City of the West'', who falls in love with Zin, of the "Botan" clan and the daughter of the governor of Botan. Hiner Saleem
Huner Saleem (Kurdish language, Kurdish: هونهر سەلیم), also transliterated as Huner Salim, (born 9 March 1964), is an Iraqi people, Iraqi–Kurdish people, Kurdish film director. He was born in the town of Aqrah (Akre) in Iraqi Kurdistan. He left Iraq at the age of 17, and soon made his way to Italy, where he completed school and attended university. Hisham Zaman (born 1 February 1975) is a Norwegian film director and screenwriter of Kurdish origin. He graduated from the Norwegian Film School at Lillehammer in 2004. His films center on the stories and inner dilemmas of characters united by a common refugee experience, exploring human themes such as love, acceptance, sacrifice, revenge, loyalty and honour. Bahman Ghobadi ( fa, بهمن قبادی; ; born 1 February 1969 in Baneh, Kurdistan province, Iran) is an Iranian Kurdish film director, producer and writer. He belongs to the " new wave" of Iranian cinema. Jano Rosebiani ( ku, Cano Rojbeyanî) is an Iraqi-Kurdish American filmmaker. He is the winner of numerous international awards and has been listed in the top 35 world filmmakers in the book "Cineaste Uit De Schaduw" (Filmmakers from the Shadow) by Belgian celebrity photographer Kris De Witte. Rosebiani was born in a small Kurdish town of Zumar on the banks of the Tigris and was raised and schooled in the town of Zakho.
