Kumatanchi
is a life simulation game, life simulation video game co-developed for the Nintendo DS by Vanillaware and studio Ashinaga Oji-san. It was published on September 25, 2008 by Dimple Entertainment. The premise and gameplay revolves around the player taking care of an anthropomorphic girl based on the mascot character Habanero-tan, seeing her interactions with other anthropomorphic characters over two weeks in real-time. Due to its gameplay and subject matter, it was only released in Japan. Vanillaware artist Shigetake acted as both director and character designer, with the game being an attempt by Vanillaware to produce two projects at the same time. Production was stressful due to staff shortages, putting Shigetake off the idea of directing any more games. The music, composed by Kimihiro Abe and Mitsuhiro Kaneda of Basiscape, was meant to break away from the company's traditional sound. Vanillaware
is a Japanese video game developer based in Osaka. An independent company, it was founded in 2002 under the name Puraguru by George Kamitani, a game developer who had previously worked at Capcom and Atlus, and directed ''Princess Crown'' (1997) for the Sega Saturn. Beginning as a small studio developing '' Fantasy Earth: The Ring of Dominion'' for Enix, in 2004 the company moved to Osaka, Kansai, and changed its name. Kamitani wanted Vanillaware to create successor projects to ''Princess Crown'', beginning with ''Odin Sphere''. The company is noted for their use of two-dimensional artwork, with character models having jointed hand-scripted movements similar to Flash animation. Later titles have experimented with layered levels and 2.5D graphics. Habanero-tan
Habanero-tan () is the unofficial mascot of Bōkun Habanero, the habanero pepper-flavored snacks produced by Tohato. Habanero-tan and her companions with names like "Jalapeño-san" are the personification of spices as cute young girls. They were created by several Japanese amateur artists, and of them, Shigatake, the creator of the character Habanero-tan, drew a series of ''yonkoma'' manga featuring the lives of these girls. Shigatake later became the graphics designer for the Vanillaware games ''Odin Sphere'' and '' GrimGrimoire''. Habanero-tan's popularity has led to various renditions (some of them risque) by other Japanese artists, and even appearances on the OVA '' Netrun-mon''. The melodica is a handheld free-reed instrument similar to a pump organ or harmonica.
