Kumar (magazine)
''Kumar'' ( gu, કુમાર) is a Gujarati literary magazine founded by Gujarati artist and author Ravishankar Raval in 1924. It is now edited by Dhiru Parikh. The headquarters is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. History ''Kumar'' was founded by Ravishankar Raval in Ahmedabad in 1924. The magazine was started as an avant-garde cultural publication. Bachubhai Ravat served as editor-in-chief from 1924 to 1942 with him. After the death of Ravishankar Raval, Bachubhai served as editor until 1980. After the death of Bachubhai in 1980, Biharibhai Tank became the editor of magazine. In 1987, it was closed. After three years, in 1990, under the editorship of Dhiru Parikh, the publication resumed. Praful Raval serves as the co-editor of the magazine. In April 2011, the 1000th issue of magazine was released. Dhiru Parikh
Dhiru Ishwarlal Parikh (31 August 1933 – 9 May 2021) was an Indian Gujarati poet, short story writer and critic. He was an editor of ''Kavilok'' and ''Kumar'', Gujarati literary magazines. Biography Dhiru Parikh was born on 31 August 1933 at Viramgam near Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. He completed his matriculation in 1951 from the town. He completed B.A. in 1955 from L. D. Arts College, M.A. in 1958 from Gujarat University and was awarded Ph.D. in 1967 for his thesis, ''Rasyugma Prakruti Nirupan''. Since 1955, he taught at C. U. Shah College. He served as the principal of Mahila Arts College of Wadhwan affiliated with SNDT Women's University from 1967 to 1969. Later he joined as a professor of Department of Gujarati, School of Languages, Gujarat University in 1977, served as a head from 1986 to his retirement in 1993. Praful Raval
Praful Raval ( gu, પ્રફુલ રાવલ) is a Gujarati teacher, poet, essayist and short story writer. Raval is a co-editor of ''Kavilok'' and ''Kumar'' and works as a general secretary of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. He received Kumar Suvarna Chandrak in 1982. Early life Raval was born on 5 September 1948 in Viramgam to Jagjivandas and Subhadraben. Raval completed SSC from Sheth M. J High School, Viramgam. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from C. M Desai Arts and Commerce College, Viramgam in Gujarati and joined the School of Language, Gujarat University. He completed a Master of Arts, a Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. Career Raval taught at L. C Kanya Vidyalaya, Viramgam from 1970 to 1983 and Sheth M. J High School, Viramgam from 1983 to 1984. Ravishankar Raval
Ravishankar Raval (1892–1977) was a painter, art teacher, art critic, journalist and essayist from Gujarat, India. He worked for the magazine ''Vismi Sadi'' until it closed in 1921, and then founded the cultural magazine ''Kumar''. Life Ravishankar Raval was born in a brahmin family on 1 August 1892 in Bhavnagar (now in Gujarat, India). His father Mahashanakar Raval was an officer in the British Communication Service. He spent his childhood in several towns as his father was transferred from one place to another. He wrote that he inherited his artistic instincts from his mother. He graduated from high school in 1909. During his first university year, at the local Arts College, his principal asked him to paint the stage sets for the college drama festival. Kumar Suvarana Chandrak or the Kumar Gold Medal is a literary award given by Kumar Trust, Ahmedabad, India since 1944.
