Kua Makona
"" (English: "Isn't That Enough"), is the debut single from Moana Maniapoto. Produced by Dalvanius Prime and sung in the Māori language, the song was used in a campaign for the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand. In 1993, the song was re-recorded as a pop-reggae version entitled "Kua Makona (Kori Kori Tinana Mix)", released as a single by Maniapoto's group Moana & the Moa Hunters. This version was later included on their debut album ''Tahi'' (1993). Background and composition Maniapoto sung in clubs and cover bands, however musician Dalvanius Prime encouraged her to release her own music. The pair first met after one of Prime's concerts, when Maniapoto's ex-husband Willie Jackson approached Prime and introduced Maniapoto to him as a promising musician. Moana Maree Maniapoto (born 22 June 1961) is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and documentary maker. Widely considered one of New Zealand's most successful indigenous acts, her music is described as a fusion of traditional Māori people, Māori haka, chants and taonga puoro, with contemporary soul, reggae and classical styles. Moana was briefly married to New Zealand politician and radio personality Willie Jackson (politician), Willie Jackson, during which time she was known as Moana Maniapoto-Jackson; they divorced in 2001. 2016 APRA Silver Scroll Awards, In 2016, Moana was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. History Early history There is no oral tradition or archaeological evidence of Māori using alcohol before the arrival of Europeans. Teremoana Rapley
Tere Veronica Rapley (born 1973), generally known as Teremoana Rapley, is a New Zealand musician, television presenter and television producer, best known for her work in the 1990s with Upper Hutt Posse and Moana and the Moahunters. In the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours, Rapley was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to music and television. History Rapley joined hip hop group Upper Hutt Posse in 1987, aged 14. She sang on the group's early tracks, including "Stormy Weather" and "Ragga Girl" and featured on the group's 1989 album ''Against the Flow''. Kōwhai Intermediate School
Kōwhai Intermediate School is a state co-educational intermediate school located in the suburb of Kingsland in Auckland, New Zealand. The school opened in October 1922, and was the first intermediate school in New Zealand. History During the early 20th century, the borough of Mount Albert was one of the fastest growing areas of Auckland. Overcrowding at Edendale School was so great that by 1918, older students at the school were moved to a temporary satellite school in St Alban's Parish Hall. In 1920, the New Zealand Government purchased a property on Kowhai Street in Kingsland to alleviate these issues.
