Teremoana Rapley
Tere Veronica Rapley (born 1973), generally known as Teremoana Rapley, is a New Zealand musician, television presenter and television producer, best known for her work in the 1990s with Upper Hutt Posse and Moana and the Moahunters. In the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours, Rapley was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to music and television. History Rapley joined hip hop group Upper Hutt Posse in 1987, aged 14. She sang on the group's early tracks, including "Stormy Weather" and "Ragga Girl" and featured on the group's 1989 album ''Against the Flow''. In 1989 Rapley joined Moana Maniapoto's hip hop and pop trio Moana and the Moahunters. The group released two albums, ''Tahi'' and ''Rua'' and had chart success with many singles, including "Black Pearl", "A.E.I.O.U." and "Peace, Love & Family". Upper Hutt ( mi, Te Awa Kairangi ki Uta) is a city in the Wellington Region of New Zealand and one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington#Wellington metropolitan area, Wellington metropolitan area. "Love Has No Name" is a song from British-New Zealand electronic dance music group Babble, which was released in 1996 as the sole single from their second and final studio album ''Ether''. The song was written by Alannah Currie (lyrics) and Tom Bailey (music), and was produced by Bailey, Currie and Keith Fernley. It reached number 10 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Music Club Play chart. The song features Teremoana Rapley as guest vocalist. It is the only track on ''Ether'' not to feature Bailey or Currie on lead vocals. Critical reception On its release, Larry Flick of ''Billboard'' described Babble as an act which "deftly blends electro-pop gloss with gritty dance and world beat rhythms" and praised Rapley as an "enigmatic vocal presence" which "bring the melodramatic pose of a French chanteuse to the song". The Mint Chicks were a New Zealand noise rock/art punk group (the band began to refer to their style of music as "troublegum" and have been referred to as anything from neo-punk to schizo-pop to the only half-serious genre definition of shit-gaze (along with groups like No Age and Wavves).
