Kristian Kornelius Hagemann Brandt
Kristian Kornelius Hagemann Brandt (8 July 1831 – 24 July 1905) was a Norwegian military officer and engineer. He was born in Eidsberg. He was a brother of law professor Fredrik Peter Brandt, and was the father of medicine professor Kristian Kornelius Hagemann Brandt (1859–1932) and Major General Fredrik Oscar Brandt (1860–1934). From 1861 to 1862 he was the chairman of the Norwegian Polytechnic Society. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway in 1865 and 1868, representing the constituency of ''Moss og Drøbak''. While serving here, he proposed an inquiry into the question of a railway in Smaalenenes Amt. He has thus been called "the father of the Smaalenene Line". Eidsberg
Eidsberg was a municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the town of Mysen. In 2020, Eidsberg was absorbed into the Indre Østfold municipality. Eidsberg was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The town of Mysen was separated from Eidsberg to form a municipality of its own on 1 July 1920, but it was merged back into the municipality of Eidsberg on 1 January 1961. General information Name The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the old Eidsberg farm (Old Norse: ''Eiðsberg'') because the first church was built here. Johannes Benedictus Klingenberg
Johannes Benedictus Klingenberg (28 April 1817 – 8 July 1882) was a Norwegian military officer and engineer. He was a son of bailiff Johan Nicolai Klingenberg (1777–1865), and also the uncle of pianist Alf Klingenberg (1867-1944), and the maternal grandfather and paternal granduncle of Odd Sverressøn Klingenberg and Kaare Sverressøn Klingenberg. He worked in the country's capital Christiania. He organized the waterworks of the city in 1855, and had a national influence in this field. He became leader of the city fire department in 1861. In the military, he held the rank of major. From 1860 to 1861 and 1872 to 1874 he was the chairman of the Norwegian Polytechnic Society. Peter Høier Holtermann (16 November 1820 – 24 August 1865) was a Norwegian architect. Biography He was born in Austrått, in Ørland municipality, Sør-Trøndelag County, Norway. He was a son of assessor Ove Bjelke Holtermann (1782–1857), and a second cousin of major general Eiler Christian Holtermann, uncle of architect Ove Bjelke Holtermann and a granduncle of major general Hans Reidar Holtermann. He attended the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry before studying in Berlin from 1842 to 1846. In 1846 he returned to Norway and established an architect's office in Christiania. His designs include the Norwegian College of Agriculture, Christiania Seildugsfabrik, Tromsø city hall and Christiania Sparebank, all erected during the 1850s and 1860s. His church designs include those in Nes, Aremark, Treungen and Holla. Many of his works have been torn down or destroyed. Akershus
Akershus () is a traditional region and current electoral district in Norway, with Oslo as its main city and traditional capital. It is named after the Akershus Fortress in Oslo. Østfold Line
The Østfold Line ( no, Østfoldbanen) is a railway line which runs from Oslo through the western parts of Follo and Østfold to Kornsjø in Norway. It continues through Sweden as the Norway/Vänern Line. The northern half is double track and the entire line is electrified. It serves a combination of commuter, regional and freight trains and is the main rail corridor in the south of Norway. The Follo Line runs parallel to the Østfold Line in tunnel. The Eastern Østfold Line branches off at Ski Station and runs before rejoining at Sarpsborg Station. The line opened as the Smaalenene Line () on 2 January 1879. Stations were designed by Peter Andreas Blix. It was the first railway in Norway to predominantly build bridges and viaducts with iron. Østfold
Østfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in southeastern Norway. It borders Akershus and southwestern Sweden (Västra Götaland County and Värmland), while Buskerud and Vestfold are on the other side of Oslofjord. The county's administrative seat was Sarpsborg. The county controversially became part of the newly established Viken County on 1 January 2020. Many manufacturing facilities are situated here, such as the world's most advanced biorefinery, Borregaard in Sarpsborg. Fredrikstad has shipyards.
