Krister Kinell
Krister Kinell (24 September 1953 – 13 February 2019) was a Swedish professional golfer and one of the first Swedish golfers to play on the European Tour. He was awarded the 1981 Swedish Golfer of the Year. Amateur career Kinell reached the final in the 1973 Swedish Junior Match-play Championship, losing on the fourth extra hole in the 36-hole match, on his home course Linköping Golf Club, against his club mate, long time friend and competitor, Bob Bäckstedt. Kinell reached the final again in 1975, losing 4 and 2 against Peter Lindwall, coincidentally also representing Linköping GC. At college in America, Kinell, together with fellow Swede Jan Rube, in 1975-76 played for the United States International University in San Diego, California, becoming the first Swedes to play golf at a University in the United States. Linköping () is a city in southern Sweden, with around 105,000 inhabitants as of 2021. It is the seat of Linköping Municipality and the capital of Östergötland County. The Swedish Golf Federation ( sv, Svenska Golfförbundet, SGF) is the governing body for the sport of golf in Sweden, founded in 1904. The federation is responsible for administering the Rules of Golf, as laid down by The R&A, at the national level. It organizes tournaments, manages the national teams, and promotes the game. As of 2022, the federation organized 448 golf clubs and 505,577 individual members with 536 203 memberships, 74.4% male and 25.6% female. This makes it the third largest sports federation in Sweden in terms of active members, behind association football and athletics in first and second and place. SGF is a member of the European Golf Association (EGA). Thanks to a high national participation rate of almost 5%, SGF is EGA's third largest national member behind England and Germany (661,805 and 640,181 members respectively as of 2016). The Epson Grand Prix of Europe was a European Tour golf tournament which was held annually from 1986 to 1991 at St. Pierre Golf & Country Club in Chepstow, South Wales. 1986 European Tour
The 1986 European Tour was the 15th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 26 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit and several non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Spain's Seve Ballesteros, who won six tournaments during the season. Changes for 1986 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Epson Grand Prix of Europe Matchplay Championship and the PLM Open; the return of the Scottish Open, as the Glasgow Open was rebranded, and the loss of the GSI L'Equipe Open. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. 1982 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1982 Eisenhower Trophy took place 15 to 18 September at the Golf Club de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was the 13th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 30 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the ninth time, finishing seven strokes ahead of the joint silver medalists, Japan and Sweden, with France finishing fourth. Luis Carbonetti, representing Argentina, had the lowest individual score, 4-under-par 284, a stroke better than Jay Sigel. The event was affected by political protests about the participation of South Africa. Magnus Persson Atlevi (born 26 July 1965) is a Swedish professional golfer. He competed as Magnus Persson until his marriage to Elisabeth Atlevi in 1999. Amateur career As a golf prodigy, Persson became a scratch player at age 15, at the time the youngest ever in Sweden, and at 16 reached a +1 handicap, as one of just four players in the country. At just 15 years of age, Persson finished runner-up and low foreign contestant at the 1980 Orange Bowl International Junior Championship in Coral Gables, Florida, after winning a playoff for second place with Stephen Ames and Paul Way.
