Krister Andersson
Krister Andersson (born 3 May 1951 in Eskilstuna, Sweden) is a Swedish musician (tenor saxophone, alt saxophone and clarinet) and composer. Career Anderson started his professional career at the age of 16 as a clarinetist in a military band, and at the same time played saxophone in dance bands. He was originally trained in classical music as a clarinet soloist at Kungliga Musikhögskolan (Royal College of Music) in Stockholm. During the early part of the 1970s, he starred as clarinet soloist in the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, led by the conductor Leonard Bernstein. Later, he was influenced by Bernt Rosengren, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson, and he turned to jazz, and early in his jazz career he participated on two live album releases with the Norwegian guitarist Thorgeir Stubø. Eskilstuna, Sweden
Eskilstuna () is a city and the seat of Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The city of Eskilstuna had 67,359 inhabitants in 2015, with a total population of 100,092 inhabitants in Eskilstuna municipality (2014). Eskilstuna has a large Sweden Finn population. The town is located on the River Eskilstunaån, which connects Lake Hjälmaren and Lake Mälaren. History Eskilstuna's history dates back to medieval times when English monk Saint Eskil made "Tuna" his base and diocese of the South coast of Lake Mälaren. Saint Eskil was stoned to death by the pagan vikings of neighbouring town Strängnäs, east of Eskilstuna, trying to convert them to Christianity. Saint Eskil was buried in his monastery church in Tuna. Later the pagan city of Strängnäs was Christianised and was given the privilege of becoming diocese of South Lake Mälaren. Börje Fredriksson
Börje Fredriksson (June 30, 1937 – September 21, 1968) was a Swedish jazz tenor saxophonist. Fredriksson was born in Eskilstuna, Sweden. He played at the beginning of the 1960s in a quartet with Bobo Stenson (piano), Palle Danielsson (bass) and Fredrik Norén (drums), as well as in groups with Eje Thelin and Bernt Rosengren. He played with the guitarist Rune Gustafsson in 1961 and with Bosse Broberg's quartet in 1962 at the Golden Circle Jazz Club in Stockholm. He recorded ''Intervall'', (Columbia 1966), together with the posthumous, self-titled ''Börje Fredriksson'', (EMI/Odeon, 1969). In 1968, he took his own life. Fredriksson's sheet music was left in the hands of Bobo Stenson, and in 1994 he, Danielsson and Norén with saxophonist Joakim Milder, recorded an album of Fredriksson's music entitled ''Sister Maj's Blouse''. Georg Riedel (jazz Musician)
Georg Riedel (born 8 January 1934) is a Czech-Swedish double bass player and composer. Riedel migrated to Sweden at the age of four and attended school in Stockholm, including the Adolf Fredrik's Music School. The best known recording featuring Riedel is probably Jan Johansson's '' Jazz på svenska'' ("Jazz in Swedish"), a minimalist-jazz compilation of folk songs recorded in 1962–1963, though Riedel has recorded with other leading Swedish musicians including trumpeter Jan Allan and Arne Domnérus. Riedel's profile as a composer derives almost exclusively from writing music for Astrid Lindgren movies, including the main theme from the ''Emil i Lönneberga'' ("Emil of Maple Hills") movies. He also composed the music for several films by Arne Mattsson in the 1960s as well as for film adaptions of novels by Stig Dagerman. Riedel also played on ''Jazz at the Pawnshop'' in 1977. ''Flight'' (released 1988 in Oslo, Norway, by Hot Club Records - HCR 25) is a studioalbum (LP) by the Norwegian guitarist Thorgeir Stubø, including two live recordings. Review This is the fourth album by Thorgeir Stubø, released in 1985, and is a mixture of studio and live recordings from a concert in Tromsø, and consists of a variety of lineups. The record is perhaps the Stubø album that has the greatest diversification of styles. In addition to the traditional hard bop format, presented through songs like "Swinging till the girls come home" (Oscar Pettiford), "Nica's Dream" (Horace Silver), Stubø presents more modern, Pat Martino oriented influence through his own, more modal-based compositions, "Flight" and "For Wes and Pat".
