Kristaq Paspali
Kristaq Paspali (19 May 1926 – 2001) was an Albanian operatic tenor. Early life Paspali was born in 1926 in Vlorë. When he was still very young, he had to leave school because of economic hardship during the Italian occupation of Albania, but he earned his living by selling goods to the Italian soldiers. During 1943 he joined the Albanian army in order to fight for his country's freedom. At the end of 1944 he joined one of the amateur bands of his division. Soon after, he moved to Durrës, where he began working as a driver in the port, but continued to perform with amateur groups. Opera
Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers. Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (; en, "Albanian Radio and Television"; mostly called RTSH ) is an Albanian public broadcasting radio and television company. Founded in 1938, it operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. The international television service via satellite RTSH Sat (former ''TVSH Sat'') was launched in 1993 and is aimed at Albanian-speaking communities in Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and northern Greece, plus the Albanian diaspora in the rest of Europe. Mrika
''Mrika'' (''Maria'') is an opera in three acts composed by Prenkë Jakova with a libretto in Albanian by Llazar Siliqi. It premiered (in a four-act version) in Shkoder, Albania in 1958 at the Migjeni Theatre. The revised three-act version (and the one used today) premiered in Tirana at the Academy of Music and Arts of Albania in December 1959. The work is based on a "musical action" in two scenes, ''Dritë mbi Shqipëri'' (''Light over Albania''), a previous collaboration between Jakova and Siliqi which had premiered in Tirana in July 1952. Prenkë Jakova
Prenk Jakova (27 June 191719 September 1969) was an Albanian composer, musician, and author of ''Mrika'' (1958), which is considered the first Albanian opera. A native of Shkodër, he studied under Martin Gjoka and Zef Kurti, and he was also an alumnus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. A virtuoso clarinetist he worked as a music teacher for most of his life and distinguished himself as the mentor of the four most important composers of classical music from northern Albania: Çesk Zadeja, Tish Daija, Tonin Harapi, and Simon Gjoni. Jakova was the director of the music band and of the House of Culture of Shkodër. Besides ''Mrika'', Jakova also composed ''Skënderbeu'', another opera which premiered in 1968. Tosca
''Tosca'' is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It premiered at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 14 January 1900. The work, based on Victorien Sardou's 1887 French-language dramatic play, ''La Tosca'', is a melodramatic piece set in Rome in June 1800, with the Kingdom of Naples's control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's Campaigns of 1800 in the French Revolutionary Wars#Italy, invasion of Italy. It contains depictions of torture, murder, and suicide, as well as some of Puccini's best-known lyrical arias.
