Krista DuChene
Krista Duchene (born January 9, 1977) is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the marathon. History In 2010, DuChene won the national Canadian title In 2013, DuChene won the Canadian Half Marathon Championships at the Banque Scotia 21K de Montréal and made her IAAF World Championships debut at the 2013 in Moscow but collapsed at the 13km mark due to extremely hot conditions. DuChene was one of 25 competitors unable to finish the race. In April 2014 during the Montreal half-marathon DuChene broke her right femur. Feeling pain with 5km to go but with 500m to go the undiagnosed stress fracture turned into a full fracture where the femur meets the hip bone. Pushing forward, she finished in third place. DuChene underwent surgery to implant a plate and three screws causing her to miss the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Pan Am Games. In July 2016 she was included into Canada's Olympic team. Canada competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21, 2016. Since the nation's debut in 1900, Canadian athletes had appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of the country's support for the United States-led boycott. The chef de mission was Curt Harnett, appointed in April 2016 after Jean-Luc Brassard, the original chef de mission, resigned his position. Toronto Waterfront Marathon
The Toronto Waterfront Marathon is an annual marathon held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in October. The race day also includes a half marathon and 5 km race. The race has quickly become an elite level marathon and is one of just five World Athletics Gold Label Road Race marathons in North America. At the 2013 edition of the race, race winner Deressa Chimsa broke the men's course record with the fastest marathon ever recorded on Canadian soil. Lanni Marchant
Lanni Marchant (born 11 April 1984) is a Canadian long distance runner from London, Ontario. On October 20th, 2013, Marchant set the Canadian women's marathon record at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, beating the 28-year-old national record by running it in exactly 2:28:00. This record held until March 10th, 2019 when Rachel Cliff established the new marathon national record in 2:26:56. Marchant participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics both in the 10,000 metres and marathon events. Early life The middle of seven children (five girls and two boys) from London, Ontario, Canada, her first sport was ice skating. In elementary school she ran as part of her curriculum and as a great way to cross train for figure skating. By the time she hit high school, she also saw it as a way to make new friends. The women's marathon event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 14 August on the Sambadrome. Summary At 9:30 in the morning, the race started with temperatures around . The pack stayed bunched, with Mare Dibaba, Visiline Jepkesho, Rose Chelimo, Volha Mazuronak and Tirfi Tsegaye each taking their turns in the spotlight. The racing got serious, the pack was down to seven at 30 kilometres with American Desiree Linden the closest pursuer but unable to get back with the group. Shalane Flanagan was consistently toward the back of the group, then she began to fall off. As Flanagan and Mazuronak struggled with the group, the remaining five African runners surged, the gap grew. Chelimo was the next to drop off the group.
