Krankschaft
Krankschaft are an English rock band. Krankschaft was the briefly used title of a backing band for Robert Calvert, a vocalist, poet and playwright best known for his work as vocalist in the space rock group Hawkwind in the 1970s. Crucial members of this group were Steve Pond, Dead Fred and drummer Mick Stupp, who were all active in the punk rock group Inner City Unit, a band founded by Hawkwind co-founder / early frontman Nik Turner, as well as a group called The Maximum Effect. The duo of Pond and Reeves played a Robert Calvert tribute concert in 2008, subsequently reuniting fully. They worked on a studio album, 'The Flame Red Superstar', and have since become favourites on the psychedelic festival circuit in Britain. Dead Fred was invited to join Hawkwind in 2013 and left Krankschaft accordingly. Robert Calvert
Robert Newton Calvert (9 March 1945 – 14 August 1988) was a South African-British writer, poet, and musician. He is principally known for his role as lyricist, performance poet and lead vocalist of the space rock band Hawkwind. Early life Calvert was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and moved with his parents to England when he was two. He attended school in London and Margate, living in a flat in Arlington House. Having finished school he joined the Air Training Corps, in which he became a corporal and played trumpet for the 438 Squadron band. He then went on to college in Canterbury. After leaving college, and having been denied his childhood dream of becoming a fighter pilot, he slowly acquainted himself with the UK's bohemian scene. Hawkwind
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are also regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton. The Enid
The Enid are a British progressive rock band founded by keyboardist and composer Robert John Godfrey. Godfrey received his main musical education from The Royal College of Music. He is previously known for his work with Barclay James Harvest, and as a recording artist on the Charisma label. In 2014, he won the Visionary Award (Progressive Music Awards) for establishing an early fan based crowdfunding model to finance the band named The Stand. In 1973, Godfrey, together with friends Francis Lickerish, Stephen Stewart and David Williams founded The Enid. They had all met at the famous experimental educational establishment, Finchden Manor. Death is the irreversible cessation of all biological functions that sustain an organism. Nik Turner
Nicholas Robert Turner (26 August 1940 – 10 November 2022) was an English musician, best known as a member of space rock pioneers Hawkwind. Turner played saxophone and flute, as well as being a vocalist and composer. While with Hawkwind, Turner was known for his experimental free jazz stylisations and outrageous stage presence, often donning full makeup and Ancient Egypt-inspired costumes. 1940–1969: Early years Turner was born in Oxford in August 1940 to a theatrical family, although his father was working in a munitions factory. At the age of 13 his family moved to the Kent seaside resort of Margate where he worked at the local funfair during the summer holiday season, befriending another seasonal worker Robert Calvert.
