Kovářská
Kovářská () is a market town in Chomutov District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,000 inhabitants. Etymology Both the Czech and German names refer to the processing of iron ore, with which the town is historically connected. The original German name Schmiedeberg meant "smithy hill". The Czech name Kovářská was introduced after World War II, meaning "smith's". Geography Kovářská is located about west of Chomutov and northeast of Karlovy Vary. It lies in the Ore Mountains. There are several peaks with an altitude above 900 m; the highest of them is Kamenný vrch at . The Černá voda Stream flows through the market town and forms a valley. History The origin of Kovářská is associated with the mining and processing of iron ore. Until the 19th century, it was almost the only source of livelihood for the locals. Air Battle Over The Ore Mountains
The Air battle over the Ore Mountains () took place around midday on 11 September 1944 between German and American air forces over the crest of the Ore Mountains near the village of Oberwiesenthal, above the Bohemian market town of Schmiedeberg (today Kovářská in the Czech Republic). Course of the battle In 1944 many Allied air raids had the aim of destroying the synthetic oil manufacturing facilities of the German oil industry where important military fuels were manufactured for aircraft and vehicles from coal. On 11 September 1944, the Americans launched ''Mission 623''. This had ten primary targets, including Leuna (Merseburg), Lützkendorf, Magdeburg, Misburg (the Deurag-Nerag factory), Hanover, Böhlen, Brüx, Ruhland and Chemnitz. The bombing of Chemnitz was also part of Operation Frantic. In case of bad weather many other alternative targets were chosen. Městys
Městys (or, unofficially or obsolete, městečko iterally "small town", translated as " market town", is a status conferred on certain municipalities in the Czech Republic, lying in terms of size and importance higher than that of simple ''obec'' (municipality) but lower than that of ''město'' (city, town). Historically, a ''městys'' was a locality that had the right to stage livestock markets (and some other "extraordinary" and annual markets), and it is therefore translated as "market town". The term went out of official use in Czechoslovakia in 1954 but was reintroduced in the Czech Republic in 2006. Sehmatal
Sehmatal is a municipality in the district of Erzgebirgskreis, in Saxony, Germany, which was created in 1999 through the union of ''Neudorf'', ''Cranzahl'' and ''Sehma''. The three villages are located along the Sehma river, aligned in a north-south direction. At the northern end is the former village of Sehma, in the middle the town of Cranzahl, to the south the village of Neudorf. The town borders to Annaberg-Buchholz in the north, in the east is Königswalde and Bärenstein, Oberwiesenthal is south and Crottendorf in the west. Nearby is the Bärenstein mountain with a height of 898 meters. The trains along Vejprty–Annaberg-Buchholz railway stop in Sehma and Cranzahl. A sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties.
