Korsakovia
''Korsakovia'' is a single-player mod for Valve's video game ''Half-Life 2''. It was developed by Thechineseroom. Korsakovia was released as freeware download on 20 September 2009. Plot In Korsakovia, the player travels through the delusions of Christopher, a man suffering from Korsakoff's syndrome. The player hears the voices of Christopher and a doctor as they try to help Christopher. Location The game takes place in numerous presumably illusory locations, ranging from an asylum to a factory. Objects sometimes float or otherwise defy the ordinary laws of physics. The player has the standard ''Half-Life 2'' flashlight, but it often runs out of electricity and must be turned off to recharge. The overall ambiance is nightmarishly grim, grimy, and depressing, an effect that is amplified considerably by atmospheric music and sound effects. The Chinese Room
The Chinese Room (formerly Thechineseroom) is a British video game developer based in Brighton that is best known for exploration games, such as ''Dear Esther''. The company originated as a mod team for ''Half-Life 2'', based at the University of Portsmouth in 2007, and is named after John Searle's Chinese room thought experiment. In August 2018, it became a subsidiary of Sumo Digital. History Early years (2007–2017) Thechineseroom's first three projects were two mods for ''Half-Life 2'', named ''Antlion Soccer'' and ''Dear Esther'', and a ''Doom 3'' mod titled ''Conscientious Objector''. Jessica Curry
Jessica Curry (born c. 1973) is an English composer, radio presenter and former co-head of the British video game development studio The Chinese Room. She won a BAFTA award in 2016 for her score for the video game ''Everybody's Gone to the Rapture''. Education Curry earned B.A.(Hons) English Literature and Language at University College London, graduating in 1994. Four years later, she obtained a Postgraduate diploma in Screen Music at the National Film and Television School. Korsakoff's Syndrome
Korsakoff syndrome (KS) is a disorder of the central nervous system characterized by amnesia, deficits in explicit memory, and confabulation. This neurological disorder is caused by a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1) in the brain, and it is typically associated with and exacerbated by the prolonged, excessive ingestion of alcohol. ''Dear Esther'' is a first-person exploration and adventure video game developed by The Chinese Room for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. First released in 2008 as a free-to-play modification for the Source game engine, the game was entirely redeveloped for a commercial release in 2012. Featuring minimalistic gameplay, the player's only objective in the game is to explore an unnamed island in the Hebrides, Scotland, listening to a troubled man read a series of letters to his deceased wife.
