Kornsjø is a village in Enningdalen in Halden, Norway on the border to Sweden. The village has 250 residents (2001). At Kornsjø is the border crossing for the railway lines the Østfold Line (Norway) and the Norway/Vänern Line (Sweden). Kornsjø Station
Kornsjø Station ( no, Kornsjø stasjon, sv, Kornsjö järnvägsstation) is a railway station located at Kornsjø in Halden, Norway, on the Østfold Line. The station is located from the Norway–Sweden border and was opened in 1879 for changing crew on international trains between Sweden and Norway and for the customs office. The building was destroyed by fire in 1898 and a new larger stone building was built. The restaurant was taken over by Norsk Spisevognselskap from 1 August 1924, but was then privatized from 1932. The Railway signal, signal equipment connected to the station is fully Norwegian, but some of it is located on the Swedish side.At , visible in streetview The station is no longer used, since international trains do not change crew any longer, and occasional customs checks are made in the train by staff based elsewhere. Østfold Line
The Østfold Line ( no, Østfoldbanen) is a railway line which runs from Oslo through the western parts of Follo and Østfold to Kornsjø in Norway. It continues through Sweden as the Norway/Vänern Line. The northern half is double track and the entire line is electrified. It serves a combination of commuter, regional and freight trains and is the main rail corridor in the south of Norway. The Follo Line runs parallel to the Østfold Line in tunnel. The Eastern Østfold Line branches off at Ski Station and runs before rejoining at Sarpsborg Station. The line opened as the Smaalenene Line () on 2 January 1879. Stations were designed by Peter Andreas Blix. It was the first railway in Norway to predominantly build bridges and viaducts with iron. Norway/Vänern Line
Norway/Vänern Line ( sv, Norge/Vänerbanan) is a Y-shaped railway line in Sweden. The main section runs from Gothenburg Central Station to Kil Station, mostly along the west shore of Vänern. There is a branch from Erikstad to the Norway–Sweden border at Kornsjø, from where it continues as the Østfold Line to Oslo. The lengths of the line are from Gothenburg to Erikstad, from Gothenburg to Kornsjø and from Gothenburg to Kil. The line is single track, except for the section from Gothenburg to Öxnered, which is double track. Halden
Halden (), between 1665 and 1928 known as Fredrikshald, is both a town and a municipality in Viken county, Norway. The municipality borders Sarpsborg to the northwest, Rakkestad to the north and Aremark to the east, as well as the Swedish municipalities Strömstad, Tanum and Dals-Ed respectively to the southwest, south and southeast. The seat of the municipality, Halden is a border town located at the mouth of the Tista river on the Iddefjord, the southernmost border crossing between Norway and Sweden.
