Chu-Ili Range
The Chu-Ili Range ( kk, Шу-Іле таулары) is a range of mountains in Kazakhstan. Administratively it is part of the Almaty Region, Almaty and Zhambyl Region, Zhambyl regions. Jambyl Region
Jambyl or Zhambyl Region ( kk, Жамбыл облысы, translit=Jambyl oblysy; russian: Жамбылская область, Zhambylskaya oblast), formerly known as Dzhambul Region (russian: Джамбульская область, Dzhambulskaya Oblast) until 1991, is a region of Kazakhstan. Korday
Korday or Kordoy ( kz, Қордай, translit=Qordai, ; ky, Кордой) is a village in Jambyl Region of Kazakhstan, and the administrative center of that region's Korday District. It has been formerly known under its old Russian name of Georgievka. European route E40, known locally as Highway M-39 (based on the old USSR highway numbering scheme), on its way from Bishkek to Almaty crosses the Chu River at Korday, making Korday border crossing arguably the most important crossing on the Kazakh- Kyrgyz border. (The Kazakhstan point of entry is known as Korday, while its counterpart on the Kyrgyz side is called Akjol, or Akjol- Shu). 2020 Dungan–Kazakh Ethnic Clashes
The 2020 Dungan–Kazakh ethnic clashes or Korday conflict was an ethnic conflict between ethnic Kazakhs and ethnic Dungans (a Muslim group with Chinese origins) in the village of Masanchi within the Korday District of Kazakhstan. As a result of the conflict, 11 people died, 185 were injured (34 of them having to be hospitalized) and 47 persons were arrested. It provoked damages costing around KZ₸1.7 billion (US$4.44 million) and the displacement of around 20,000 people to neighboring Kyrgyzstan. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a statement regarding the conflict in which he gave his condolences to the family of the victims and stated that the situation was now controlled by the Military Police and the Kazakh National Guard.
