Konstantin Olshansky
Konstantin Fyodorovich Olshansky ( uk, Костянтин Федорович Ольшанський; 21 May 1915 – 27 March 1944) was a Senior Lieutenant and Soviet marine of the Black Sea Fleet, born in Prykolotne, Ukraine. He died during an assault on the port of Mykolaiv, Ukraine, formerly Nikolaev, occupied in World War II by German forces, and was posthumously awarded Hero of the Soviet Union. Prykolotne
Prykolotne ( uk, Приколотне, russian: Приколотное) is a rural settlement in Kupiansk Raion of Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is located in the northeast of the oblast, at the source of the Khotomlia, a left tributary of the Donets in the drainage basin of the Don. Prykolotne belongs to Vilkhuvatka rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History Until 18 July 2020, Prykolotne belonged to Velykyi Burluk Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Velykyi Burluk Raion was merged into Kupiansk Raion. Until 26 January 2024, Prykolotne was designated urban-type settlement. Mykolaiv ( uk, Миколаїв, ) is a List of cities in Ukraine, city and List of hromadas of Ukraine, municipality in Southern Ukraine, the Administrative centre, administrative center of the Mykolaiv Oblast. The title Hero of the Soviet Union (russian: Герой Советского Союза, translit=Geroy Sovietskogo Soyuza) was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society. Overview The award was established on 16 April 1934, by the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union. The first recipients of the title originally received only the Order of Lenin, the highest Soviet award, along with a certificate (грамота, ''gramota'') describing the heroic deed from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Because the Order of Lenin could be awarded for deeds not qualifying for the title of hero, and to distinguish heroes from other Order of Lenin holders, the Gold Star medal was introduced on 1 August 1939. The Military Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ( uk, Військо́во-морські́ си́ли Збро́йних сил Украї́ни, ВМС ЗСУ) is the maritime forces of Ukraine and one of the five branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The naval forces consist of five components – surface forces, submarine forces, naval aviation, coastal rocket-artillery and naval infantry. As of 2022, the Ukrainian navy had 15,000 personnel, including 6,000 naval infantry. In 2015, the Ukrainian navy had 6,500 personnel. In 2007 and prior to the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, 15,470 people served in the Ukrainian navy. Olshanske ( uk, Ольшанське, russian: Ольшанское) is an urban-type settlement in Mykolaiv Raion, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Olshanske settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: The settlement is located on the right bank of the Southern Bug, about from the river. History In 1961, a construction of a big cement plant started. The settlement serving the plant was known as the Hryhorievka Cement Plant and belonged to Varvarivka Raion of Mykolaiv Oblast. In 1963, Varvarivka Raion was abolished and Mykolaiv Raion was established. In 1968, Hryhorievka Cement Plant was renamed Olshanske, to commemorate Konstantin Olshansky, a Hero of the Soviet Union, and it was granted urban-type settlement status.
